UFC President Dana White wants to make sure the American public knows that the best fighters in the world are in his organization, not on the EliteXC card on CBS tonight. So what better way to accomplish that than by showing EliteXC's best fighter getting knocked out? That's what UFC did tonight, showing Ultimate Knockouts 4 on Spike tonight, just before the start of the EliteXC show. And the first fight in Ultimate Knockouts 4 just happened to be Robbie Lawler, who is the best fighter on the EliteXC card, getting knocked out by Nick Diaz.
Of course, Diaz is also under contract to EliteXC, so showing the bout wasn't too damaging to EliteXC's reputation. But every little bit helps, and from White's perspective, it's got to be a good thing to undermine the credibility of EliteXC's best fighter, just before that fighter steps into EliteXC's cage on national television.
UPDATE: The show also featured David Terrell knocking out Matt Lindland, one of the stars of the July 19 Affliction show.
