UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre retained his title tonight with an impressive unanimous decision victory over Jon Fitch at UFC 87 in Minneapolis.
St. Pierre dominated in the first round, taking Fitch to the ground early and pounding him repeatedly, and by the time the first five minutes were over, few would have expected the fight to go the distance. But Fitch fought admirably, and although the scorecards weren't close (50-43, 50-44, 50-44), he at least put on a respectable showing.
St. Pierre, in defending his title for the first time, made clear -- as if there was any doubt -- that he's one of the best fighters in mixed martial arts. Fitch is a great fighter, but St. Pierre is on another level. There may not be any welterweights who can beat St. Pierre, which is why so many UFC fans want to see lightweight champ B.J. Penn move up to fight GSP.
"I know B.J. Penn wants it and I'm ready to do it," St. Pierre said afterward, as Penn stood in the Octagon with him.
In tonight's co-main event, Brock Lesnar destroyed Heath Herring. In other fights on tonight's UFC 87 card, Kenny Florian defeated Roger Huerta with an impressive unanimous decision, Demian Maia beat Jason MacDonald with a third-round rear-naked choke and Rob Emerson knocked out Manny Gamburyan in just 12 seconds.

OMG I loved this Card! This has got to be by far one of UFC's best cards ever! Every fight was absolutely amazing. Kenny Florian won a hard fought 3 round war just like i thought he would, but BROCK LESNAR OMG! This guy didn't just dominate Heath Herring, he obliterated him! Brock lesnar has gotten so much better and he's only going to get even better then now. Even though those fights were awesome i still would give the GSP vs Fitch fight of the night and a candidate for fight of the year. Gsp had fitch hurt a good number of times, but Fitch proved to everyone why he was the #1 contender by pushing himself more then anyone else has. Once again i loved this card and hope all of you got to see it. I LOVE UFC!

Goerges st pierre just outclassed fitch, it's a shame i really wanted the underdog to do better.
Lets see gsp and anderson silva switch weights and fight, that would basically be the ultimate fight rite now who would agree?
