I interviewed UFC middleweight Patrick Cote today about his upcoming fight with Anderson Silva, widely regarded as the best mixed martial arts fighter in the world:
"I expect a war," Cote said. "I know that my face will be a mess at the end of this fight, but I'm sure that I will be the winner. The pain will be not that bad if I have the belt around my waist."
I would have to assume that anyone fighting Silva would be scared heading into the fight, and Cote acknowledged that he will feel a little bit of fear -- but he indicated that the fear can be channeled so that it's beneficial.
"There's nobody that's not scared to fight. You can't tell me that. But it's not a bad scared," he said. "I'm the underdog, so I have nothing to lose in this fight. The pressure is not on me, it's on him."
Cote vs. Silva is the main event at UFC 90 on October 25 in Chicago.

PEOPLE NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO THIS FIGHT.
THIS MAY BE A BIG UPSET JUST LIKE IN TOKYO
WITH TYSON AND DOUGLAS. SILVA IS A BAD DUDE AND HE'S ONE OF MY FAVORITE FIGHTERS BUT THE UPSET
CAN HAPPEN. NOBODY IS UNBEATABLE AND THE MOST
LEAST LIKELY OPPONENT WILL SHOCK EVERYONE.

I agree, this fight should not take a backseat to any ufc or mma fan!! But in the end I still believe cote will lose, but no doubt he thinks he can take Silva's punches, by stating that I know that at the end of the fight I will be banged up. I personally believe his best chance is to time the counter punch and then shoot and try to ground and pound. But toe to toe, in a stand up is dangerous and not very logical considering that Silva has beaten strikers at their own game CONSISTENTLY!!!-- even champions and former champions.

Of course, an upset is always a possibility. However, I don't see it because I just don't see what Cote brings that is superior in even one category.
