UPDATE: Kimbo Slice Will Fight Seth Petruzelli, Not Ken ShamrockKevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson, the YouTube sensation who turned his backyard brawling into a career in mixed martial arts, appears to have an opponent for the next time he steps into the cage: Ken Shamrock, the MMA legend who competed in UFC 1 but hasn't won a fight in more than four years.
Sherdog is reporting that Shamrock vs. Kimbo will be the main event for EliteXC's October 4 show on CBS.
From EliteXC's perspective, Shamrock is the perfect opponent for Kimbo because he's a recognizable name within the sport of MMA, but Kimbo has a legitimate chance of beating him. Shamrock at his best would have destroyed Kimbo, but at age 44 he's long past his prime. Shamrock has lost five straight fights, all by first-round knockout.
Kimbo vs. Shamrock isn't a marquee mixed martial arts fight, but it is a fight that will get a reasonable amount of attention and perhaps get good enough ratings to keep EliteXC afloat through the year. For that reason, Shamrock is the right choice.

I'm tired of seeing Kimbo fight. He should go up against "The Natural" and see how he does. Kimbo is good in the backyard where no skills are necessary, but worthless in the cage where you have to have "some" skill. From now on, the only thing I ever want to hear out of Kimbo's mouth is "Do you want fries with that?"

kdogg, Brock lesnar has been thrown to the wolfs in the UFC. First he draws Frank Mir and then Heath Herring. His next fight is against Cheick Kongo. Kimbo is terrible getting lucky in his last fight against a no-name heavyweight. Marketing is a good thing if the product you have is worth marketing but Kimbo is terrible in the ring. I do give him credit for his desire to learn and the hard work he puts in.

A great marquee match up for television but Kimbo will put the hurt on Ken Shamrock. Another squash match.

What do some of you idiots want? Yes...Kimbo is being marketed like crazy, but he is a newbie to MMA. Anyone with half a brain knows that he would lose against the MMA elite. But as long as he puts butts in seats Elite XC is going to continue to cash in. But some of you wanting him to fight Top Ten Heavyweights at this stage of his VERY new MMA career are obviously smoking crack or just drinking haterraid and want to see him destroyed before his career even gets going good.

I hear a lot of you all talking but I know for a fact not one of you posting would get in a ring with either one of these guys a matter of fact if you seen them walking down the street you would cross the street so in the words of the Rock, "It does not matter what you think".

joe rogan couldn't survive a minute with an A fighter but he's still a great commentator.

It does matter what we think because we're the fans and we ultimately pay the bills. And besides, when we watch something like baseball and we say "that guy sucks, he should be traded", its pretty much a given we're not saying we're personally better. Same with MMA. Its all relative.

10 and 11....you guys just need to watch WWE. EliteXC has a fighter
in their HW stable which would be a perfect test for Kimbo - Brett Rogers. But, guess what, they are afraid of the match because they know Brett would destroy Kimbo.
They don't want to lose the steam they have for a Kimbo headlined PPV. And to everyone who is saying, "Give Kimbo time, he is new to MMA." Guess what, the dude is almost 35 years old - he aint got much time left.

You assume too much. Funny that all you do is make your own interpetation but don't have resouces to back it up. Kimbo is UNDEFEATED in mma bitch.

kdog, mmaFan.....wait a second. Don't make these people have to think about their one sentence comments. They want to just shout out a tantrum, without thinking, while hidden behind a monitor somewhere. Yes, I think Kimbo is over hyped, but he is a marketing dream for Elite right now because of that. Yes, he he would get his a$$ handed to him against a top 10 in his weight class right now, but he's new to professional MMA. What's the last fighter, with any bit of possible potential at all (even just a little potential), that anyone knows who took on one of the top 5 in the world at their weight class, in any sport, during their first few fights? .....and there are crickets chirping in the room.... Only time will tell if he can be a decent fighter at his weight class (personal opinion, I don't think he'll ever be great, but may be decent at his weight class given he commits the time and training, because he does have some raw/natural talent to fight). It'll be a while before they have him face any real current talent in his weight class though.

i like kimbo. not A class, may or may not ever be but i am really curious to see what will happen.
shamrock in his prime would still be a top dog and even though he has mostly lost his his 5-8 fights those were ALL tough opponents. i would be surprised if ken doesn't fight a smart fight a finally get the W, or maybe a nasty sub. i am impressed with kimbo gaining skill and as always he really brings it on.
I can't imagine kimbo having a chance unless shamrock decides to put on that stupid kind of random slugfest that is so popular in USA... but,
even kimbo has always brought:
his full toolbox and
cardio and
the will to win and really tried to have a
logical gameplan.
ken lost twice to ortiz i think ( couple of years back?)
kimbo doesnt match ortiz -not even close but they both have a physical style. ken better not treat kimbo like crazy horse did brock. experiance matters but there is no single trump card in MMA
