In February, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira defeated Tim Sylvia to win the UFC heavyweight championship. But the UFC has always made clear that Nogueira was just its interim heavyweight champ, and now that Randy Couture is back in the UFC, Couture retains his heavyweight title. So here's how the UFC will handle its heavyweight situation: Couture will fight Brock Lesnar on November 15, Nogueira will fight Frank Mir on December 27, and the winners of the two fights will fight each other some time in 2009 to unify the titles.
Some might say it's a little bit unfair to Nogueira and Mir that their heavyweight title fight now seems somewhat diminished, but really, this was the best way to do it: The circumstances of Couture leaving and then coming back are extraordinary, and the best thing for UFC fans is to see three great fights: Couture-Lesnar, Nogueira-Mir and the winners against each other.

Perhaps it's the best way; but does Brock Lesnar really deserve a title shot? He loses his UFC debut, only to gain a sloppy victory over Heath Herring where he relied solely on brute strength and demonstrated he has learned absolutely nothing since his loss to Mir. He now has an "immaculate" record of 2-1 and he gets a title shot? Has he really earned this? I sincerely hope Couture knocks him back to the WWE. Who's with me?

SLOPPY??? That fight was in no way sloppy, that was a three round completely one sided beating he laid on Herring.
While I agree doesn't yet deserve a title shot, that win was anything but sloppy.

Keep in mind that Brock Lesnar fought Frank Mir a former ufc champion in his debut. Mir was a bad opponent for Brock, although you don’t want to constantly feed a new fighter easy opponents it’s important to first build the fighter up. It’s good for confidence and even if the opponents were not much of a challenge it still gives a new fighter a feel for the different fighting styles that he will encounter further down the road. Fighting is about 90% mental. Brock Lesnar could have all the physical tools to be champion, but he may lack octagon knowledge. We all know he lacks octagon experience. I personally feel that he needs to work on his strikes and submissions. Brock should be fighting Kongo. Dana White is making a very bad choice for Lesnar. I sympathize with Brock Lesnar because it seems like the ufc organization is purposley setting the man up for failure. Yes, Brock is big, strong, quick, and has tremendous stamina for his size. However you can never underestimate Randy Couture, the guy is a legend. Brock is actually the underdog going into this fight. If managed and used properly Brock Lesnar could be the Mike Tyson of the ufc.
