In the moments after Rashad Evans knocked out Chuck Liddell at UFC 88 last night, the UFC's top brass huddled up and decided that the KO earned Evans a title shot.UFC President Dana White announced in the wee hours of Sunday morning that Evans would fight Forrest Griffin for the UFC light heavyweight title. Although a date hasn't been chosen, it will most likely be a co-main event on the December 27 UFC 92 card, which also features the interim heavyweight title clash between Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Frank Mir.
Although UFC executives have to be disappointed that Liddell lost -- he is, after all, their most proven pay-per-view draw, and even Griffin wanted him to win -- it makes sense that they would give Evans the next title shot. He's undefeated and he's just provided UFC fans with one of the greatest highlights in mixed martial arts history. A Griffin-Evans fight won't draw the way a Griffin-Liddell fight would have, but it's still a fight every UFC fan will want to see.

Not to sure who will win the title fight between evans and griffin at this point but lyota machida should be given a title shot regardless if evans or griffin wins and i don't really believe either evans or griffin wants to fight him, his style is frustrating to oppponents, its like playing chess, he is waiting for one small mistake and when he sees it hits his target, call him boring if you want but Anderson Silva some time back said of him that he considers him to be the lightheavyweight champ, kind of gives one an idea of what level of respect silva has for him.

Evans will knock Griffith out and the realistic fans know it.I think dana will let griffith fight a couple of washed up scrubs that don't even deserve a shot at the title before he puts him in the ring with a real contender. Its called "Marketing".

Unlike Boxing of the past 20, the MMA world is packed with incredible fighters who are hungry for a chance at the top and most are more then qualified. Anyone who sits at the 205 throne is going to be fighting Top level contenders every fight. The UFC has never stacked fights just to give Champions easy wins -There are no easy wins in the UFC. Forrest will Fight Evans and the victor of that will fight the winner between Lyoto Machida and Thiago Silva. Thats my guess.
