I like Patrick Cote. I've interviewed him a few times in the last few months, and I've always found him to be polite, well spoken and respectful. So I have a hard time even recognizing this Patrick Cote:
That interview took place after Cote lost to Anderson Silva at UFC 90, and Cote comes across, frankly, like an idiot.
"I think I did a good job," Cote said. "I f---ed my knee in the middle of the second round. ... I've received a lot of good comments that I did great. I'm the first guy in the UFC to make the third round with Anderson Silva. I would love a rematch."
Sorry, Patrick: There is no way the UFC will do a Silva-Cote II. That's just not going to happen. And, unfortunately, that's not even the worst of Cote's comments.
"I f---ed him up really bad," Cote said. "My game plan was good and I think that he was scared to exchange with me."
That's just ridiculous. Silva wasn't hurt, wasn't sweating and wasn't breathing heavily at the time that Cote's knee injury ended their fight. Silva was basically just toying with Cote.
Cote also noted that he thought it was "rude" of Silva to offer to help him off his back at one point during the fight. Maybe, but not as rude as claiming you f---ed a guy up after you barely laid a glove on him.

He looks to be a little buzzed here to me ... maybe some post-fight pain killers or something.
He definitely didn't hurt Silva, but it's pretty normal for a fighter to say such a thing after a fight. The only 2 significant shots were landed by Silva, and Patrick stood up to them very well.
Cote is getting alot of negative press out of this and I'm not sure why ... ? He was not at all intimidated by Silva, in fact Silva did more backpeddling than Cote. People will say that Silva had an off night or that he was playing with Cote, but the simple fact is that Silva didn't feel comfortable enough to let his strikes go like he usually would.
Do I think that Cote was going to win ... no, in fact Silva likely would have KOed him in the 3rd or 4th in my opinion.
Silva respected him in the ring, and the media should show some respect for him now.

Good article on Cote and the video just shows how dellusional the guy is. He landed nothing- zero- zilch.
Silva gave him an amazing high kick followed by a perfect knee and 1 solid punch on a setup. Cote would not survive 5 rounds of that.
Cote is not in the rankings for top 10 and he has not beaten anyone in the top 10. Hes fight fodder for Silva and made the champ look terrible by injuring....himself.
Anyone who thinks Silva was going to dance for 5 rounds and not crush this guy is insane.

Silva landed 2 or 3 good strikes in 10+ minutes, and Cote was unphased by them. Say what you want about Cote, but he is the first guy to stand with Silva for 2+ rounds and not get hurt.
I'm not a fan of Cote, and I doubt he will ever be in another main event - much less a rematch with Silva.

Um, he's wasted in that video, surrounded by his friends. Who's not gonna talk it up? Has no one ever been drunk before? I'd give him a break on it, he probably regrets saying some of that.
As far as the comment "I f---ed him up really bad,"
Why does everyone take everything literally? He was obviously talking about mentally throwing Anderson off by frustrating him and not allowing him openings, which is 100% true. He was also taking some HUGE shots and smiling them off. Silva had to respect the fact that Cote had KO power and wasn't going to give him any openings.
I thought it was a great fight until the unfortunate ending, then I come on the internet and everyone is saying he was "toying" with Cote. Um, was everyone watching a different fight? Have you all bought into the 'Anderson is invincible hype machine' so hard that it's impossible for someone to throw him off his game? Cote was taking some HUGE shots and smiling them off. On top of that, it was very exciting and impressive to watch Silva adapting on the fly.
Or in other words
oMGZOR S1LV4 DDNT' KNCOK HIM TEH FCUK OUT INSTINTLEY OBVIUSLY HE WUZ TOYNG WIT HIM!!!!1111
Ridiculous.

Cote looked like a turtle in the fight. He was being toyed with or he just was waiting to KO the guy in one hit- either way that still makes him not so good.
I like when he went for a takedown and Silva just spun him and stapled him onto the cage. The guy is too slow and too duh.

First off it is a shame that you post a video of an obviously drunk Patrick Cote. And in all honesty those of us who watched the fight saw an Anderson Silva we haven’t seen before. I have heard several excuses for this to defend the Champ and make all you like but the truth is the truth! (Watch the fight) No Patrick did not dominate him or bang him up but something about Patrick and his fight style and game plan had Anderson confused and out of his comfort zone. On paper Anderson is by far the superior fighter but they don’t fight on paper. Patrick controlled the Center of the Cage and had Anderson pacing on the outside not engaging I honestly found it embarrassing for the Champ. I had Anderson picked to win by knock out in the 2nd and I wished I could have seen more call it how you like but a frustrated unknowing Silva looked like he was the prey and Patrick was the predator.

Anderson Silva is an extremely intelligent fighter. He is not going to stand in the middle of the cage and have an all out slug fest. He is brilliantly elusive, devastatingly accurate and incredibly adaptable. He is predatory even in retreat. You can see it in his eyes as he waits for an opportunity to counter.
I'm really sorry that Cote injured his knee and was unable to finish the fight I thought he was surviving well enough. However, he was unable to mount a significant attack on Silva and it was only a matter of time until Silva would have had him hurt and in trouble.

When he said "I f-ed him up", Cote was VERY OBVIOUSLY talking about how he got inside Silva's head by sticking to a very effective gameplan. Why try to make what he said into something it isn't?
Anyone who watched that and thought Cote meant he had physically damaged Silva is simply wrong.
And anyone who believe's Silva was "just toying with him" until he KO'd him, just doesn't know MMA.

Amazing footwork by Silva, he moved so much against the stiff Cote that it really isnt a surprise he busted his knee.
He took 2 sutle but devastating low kicks to that leg and then tried to match Silva's Movements- which were epxlosive and agile.
Cote couldnt hang.

Cote was right on. He got in Andersons head, thats what he meant. This just showed that Anderson is nowhere near p4p best and this fight just proved it. Fedor would destroy Anderson with one flurry he would quit Anderson you know why? Cause things like that have never happened to Anderson in the UFC and he would not expect it and he would start backpeddling.

got in Anderson's head?!?! Are you kidding me?? Silva looked like he felt SORRY for that poor boy!! He obviously didn't take him seriously, because Silva knows that the fight could have been over in the first round if he wanted to end it. He wanted to give his fans a show and he did it! It's too bad that Cote got hurt though, I wouldn't wish that on anyone because it looked like it hurt but there is NO WAY he could have beat Silva, even if he tried his hardest.. it's cute he has confidence though haha

I have to disagree about Silva back peddling to a 'Fedor' like attack. Chris Leben came forward hard in an attempt to overwhelm Silva. It failed miserably. Silva's evasive and defensive skills are too strong. He punished Leben for that come-forward style of his.
Silva has been tested. I find it hard to believe that people still doubt him. He's fought Henderson, Horn, Newton, etc. All different styles of fighter's in both the ring and the cage. He's only lost 4 fights! And even in those losses he performed fantastically. One loss where he was dominating was because of a flying scissor heel hook. That shit was just beautiful anyway.
