This is news that Affliction should be absolutely embarrassed to announce: Josh Barnett's opponent on the Affliction: Day of Reckoning card will be Gilbert Yvel. If you've never seen Yvel, here he is getting interviewed after a fight last year:
Yvel is a totally worthless opponent for Barnett. He's not one of the 50 best heavyweights in the world, and it's absurd for him to be fighting a Top 5 heavyweight like Barnett. I would rather watch Tim Sylvia vs. Ken Shamrock than Gilbert Yvel vs. Josh Barnett.
Yesterday I said I thought Vitor Belfort vs. Matt Lindland is a good fight for the Day of Reckoning card, which is headlined by Fedor Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski. But if Barnett vs. Yvel is the best Affliction can do for the No. 2 fight on the card, maybe Day of Reckoning needs to be called off.

Yea, this matchup sucks.
Yvel can strike a little bit ... pretty good actually, but he is lost on the ground.
What a waste of Barnett's skills.

this might turn out to be a good battle, who knows?..... and also, not every fight has to be so called matched up with "top ranked opponents". and for somebody the say this affliction event should be called off because of one match up is freakin arogant. maybe afliction should run by all their fights with you to make sure they have your approval.

Ponce -
Yvel has lost fights due to biting, eye gouging, and even knocking out a referee ... the guy is a total head case. Mike Tyson can't hold a candle to this guys lunacy.

Fabino Sherner is the guy who lost to Gabriel Sherner and Truth Vera in the UFC. Thats a legitamate UFC vet that this guy beat. Also Akira Shoji is another legit fighter with A LOT of his losses being against Top quality opponents. So hold off on horrible he has a punchers chance for sure. Josh is Top Notch though

Scherner is a big punching bag. He is 7-7, and has been knocked out 5 times.
Shoji is tough and all & has faced some great guys, but he has a losing record - in which he has been beaten 16 times.
Personally, I don't believe in making fights when a fighter only has a "punchers chance". We should get a better match-up than that for Barnett.

Eric I believe that yes there are better fighters out there. One for sure is Werdum but hes not going to get signed. If u look at the top 10 heavies they have recently fought or are training for other orgs or fights. Thats what makes this a easier but dangerous, "I might get caught" fight for Barnett
