In this video, Georges St. Pierre discusses his plans for fighting B.J. Penn at UFC 94, and for a couple of potential fights after that:
The UFC has already announced that the St. Pierre-Penn winner will defend the welterweight title against Thiago Alves, and St. Pierre knows that if he beats Penn, Alves will be a tough test. But he also doesn't hesitate to talk about a potential future fight with Anderson Silva at 185 pounds.
"Thiago Alves is doing very well, and by the time I fight Thiago Alves, maybe somebody else will come up," St. Pierre said. "My division is pretty stacked (but) I don't want to say never. I will always fight who the fans want me to fight. My sport is controlled by, of course, the UFC, but who controls UFC? The fans. If the fans are wanting to see (a St. Pierre-Silva fight) happen, it will happen."
I think it's safe to say that the fans want to see that fight. And if St. Pierre beats both Penn and Alves, I'm not sure that there's a lot left for him to do at welterweight. I suppose if former EliteXC welterweight champion Jake Shields were to sign with the UFC and beat a Top 5 welterweight, he might be worthy of a title shot against GSP, but that's supposing a lot.
If St. Pierre wins his next two fights, and Silva wins his next fight (most likely against Thales Leites at UFC 97 in Montreal), it would be the right time for St. Pierre vs. Silva. When two champions have cleared out their weight classes, it just makes sense to pit them against each other.
That means we could be heading into a 2009 in which St. Pierre will fight Penn, Alves and Silva. I can't think of a better trio of opponents for him. But first he has to beat Penn.

Those all sound like fights ufc fans would want to see of course but if BJ Penn actually comes in with good cardio then as much as I like GSP I think BJ would win the fight. It is probably a bit frustrating to mma fans when BJ comes in a fight out of shape. GSP is actually continuing to improve despite how good he already is and BJ better have some great cardio because GSP is a cardio machine. The people who have been suggesting that BJ may be the best fighter in mma are Aoki who just beat Alvarez. Anderson Silva said BJ maybe is the best in mma and I recall some time back where Matt Hughes said that he thinks BJ is a better fighter than GSP and that's despite the fact that he made it rather clear that he didn't particularly like BJ. If GSP wins that's great but what if he loses? It sort of complicates things since if I am not mistaken BJ may move back down to lightweight to defend his title, that would be kind of a mess. All that aside it seems like people are wanting Anderson Silva to fight all sorts of people. Some want him to fight Rampage, some want him to fight Evans some want him to fight GSP some want him to fight Chuck Liddell and frankly all those would be very interesting fights, maybe not so much the Liddell one though. Or make it interesting and put GSP and Rampage and Liddell all in the cage at the same time with Silva so he can bruce lee all of them at once and be done with it. Obviously I am not serious but at this point if he only has a limited amount of fights left before he retires than it would be nice for him to take on the best of the best before he does.
