Could we see an MMA heavyweight tournament this year featuring names like Fedor Emelianenko, Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic, Alistair Overeem, Sergei Kharitonov and Semmy Schilt? Probably not, but we can dream, can't we?Our friends at Free Fight Videos have a couple posts up, based on reports from Sportal.hr, that suggest that Cro Cop has re-upped with Dream, and that Dream's relationship with Fedor, Overeem, Kharitonov, Schilt, Gilbert Yvel and a few other big guys could make for an amazing heavyweight tournament.
Cro Cop had been talking about a return to the UFC, but it appears that instead he'll keep fighting in Japan with Dream, as he did three times in 2008. There has been talk that he could have a rematch with Overeem, whom he fought to a no-contest in September after Overeem repeatedly kneed him in the groin.
But just think how cool it would be if Cro Cop vs. Overeem was a first-round fight in a heavyweight tournament. Overeem is the heavyweight champion of Strikeforce, but his contract with Strikeforce wouldn't preclude him from participating in a Dream tournament.
And then there's Fedor, the best fighter in the world. Put him into a tournament with Overeem, Cro Cop and a few other top heavyweights, and now we're talking. Fedor is under contract to Affliction, but like Overeem, his contract doesn't keep him from fighting in Japan. In fact, when I talked to Affliction boss Tom Atencio, he told me it's possible that Fedor's next fight will be in Japan.
I should stress that I don't think this is all going to happen. Dream isn't in very good shape right now, and I'm not convinced that they could put together a tournament of this caliber. But after UFC fans have been forced to wait on Frank Mir vs. Brock Lesnar, it's fun to think of all the heavyweight possibilities elsewhere.

If they could even do a four-man tournament of Cro Cop, Overeem, Fedor and Schilt, I would pay a lot to see that. I just hope Fedor fights again soon, and that when he fights he's fighting a top 10 opponent.

Alistair is fighting Remy in a K-1 bout on March 28th. I don't watch a lot of kickboxing, but after the way Alistair dispatched of Badr Hari in the first round I'm interested to see him go against Bonjasky.
Alistair may have the best stand-up at heavyweight ... he crushed Buentello, he was beating Cro-cop, and he dismantled Badr. He has found new life and alot of muscle at heavyweight.
