Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson may be ready to give up mixed martial arts and take up boxing.
Kimbo, who recently made a visit to his native Bahamas, was quoted by The Nassau Guardian saying that he wants to box:
"Boxing is really my first desire. I have a lot of love for it and believe I can do pretty well. MMA is somewhat of a project for me. Boxing is one dimensional while there are a lot of dimensions in MMA. I don't think it would be a hard transition from MMA to stand-up boxing because of my fighting style."But Kimbo also seems to suggest that he'll fight twice in MMA for Strikeforce, which purchased his EliteXC contract:
"I have two more MMA fights scheduled before this year is out. Every fighter and athlete knows that you should not switch camps in the middle of something. Also, I train in Florida. My MMA trainer will also be training me for stand up boxing. Finishing up my contract would allow me to be a free agent."Strikeforce has said it's still in negotiations with Kimbo, and it's not clear whether he'll ever actually fight in the cage for the promotion. My own feeling is that Kimbo's next fight will probably be in the boxing ring, with former EliteXC boss Gary Shaw serving as the promoter.

Good move.
I think Kimbo is better suited for Boxing...
If there is any MMA fighter that could make the transition to Boxing it's Kimbo. No other could do it.
If Kimbo can make it into the top 15 ranking he will Legitimize MMA, to Boxing fans, If he doesn't it will confirm what they think.
The best thing for MMA is for a unsucessful MMA fighter like Kimdbo to well in Boxing... I THINK HE COULD DO IT.

Kimbo stay in the back yard fighting druggies , thats more your thing. If kimbo couldnt take a defensive punch from Seth he has zero chance in pro boxing. Give me a break Kimbo , stay where they pay you 500k for zero talent like you made against Seth. You dont get title shots with 4 fights( SEE BROCK ) in Pro Boxing thats only in MMA , HAHAHA. wHAT A JOKE

You're kidding me, right? I was a boxer and college wrestler, and studied karate for years. Kimbo is old, slow, and has none of the fisticuff skills that professional boxers possess. It takes years to develop hand and foot co-ordination: the reason that MMA fighters succeed is that the majority of them are world class collegiate wrestlers and learn their striking skills from intense karate and kick boxing studies. Boxing is highly, highly specialized: Kimbo could not last a round as a sparring partner for one of the Klitchko brothers.

Kimbo has very heavy and explosive hands. His fighting style is better suited for boxing because it's a one dimensional sport. If you want to insult the man for having goals and dreams thats you own insecurities. It's not like he is going to turn pro and be fighting Dr.Steelehammer in his first fight. The HW division is the weakest in boxing and if a guy like Areola can be undefeated then Kimbo could at *least* attract good PPV numbers because people want to see him fight. The guy is a compelling figure who came from nothing to something. Thats the American Dream in it of itself.
Don't be a hater because the guy wants to do something that suits his style.

I'm not much of an MMA fan but I respect the sport. With that said, Kimbo and anyone who think he can excel in boxing is dreaming. 35 is not the ideal age for a heavyweight to pickup boxing. Maybe if he trains hard and fight 8 times a year he'll be ready for 10/12 round fights in two years against journeymen. It's gonna end worse than it did when he fought Seth. I'm guessing he'll be given the Butterbean treatment anyhow.

Watch much MMA? I could rattle off dozens of names off the top of my head who have a better chance of making that transition.

I'm not happy about it at all, but I have to agree with you.
Kimbo MIGHT be able to punch a little bit, but at this late stage in his career I don't see him having success in Boxing or MMA. A journeyman light heavyweight would walk right through him.

Come on people are you serious! Kimbo Slica is very explosive and has Huge power. This coming from Bas Rutten himself... people on here talk a alot and most have no idea.
Bas even said he thought Kimbo had the potential to be GREAT in mma.... He lost to a good pro fighter who won on TUF by the way. Also he was unprepared thinking he would fight the legend old man Shamrock!
All this trash talk.... he was overrated for sure but only becuase of where he was at in skill and technique, BOTH take YEARS to develope!

To all who think Kimbo is heavy handed and explosive , get real. He looked good against guys with no formal training on youtube , you know the druggies , bouncers , street thugs etc. To think he can walk in a cage or ring and have that same success is foolish , it wont happen. He turned his youtube backyard fighting into a huge payday , i give him credit for that , but as we see.... HE'S NO WHERE TO BE FOUND NOW!!! Where is this explosive fighter???? He hasnt fought since his 14 second embarrasment to Seth. My guess is we'll see him one more time when his 500k runs out. Real MMA fighters cant wait to get back in the ring, Kimbo isnt one of them. At his age it will be a very long road to try and develop into a great MMA fighter or pro boxer , it wont happen.

i believe Arlovski is considering boxing also. so think about this, could Kimbo beat Arlovski right now in a boxing match? the answer is no. Arlovski would tear through him in a min. even with the big gloves on.

Easy7179 You are right about Kimbo not being able to beat The Pitbull... for many reasons, Reach, Speed and Technique being the top three... BUT in POWER? I think their power is very comparable.... Arlovski has more velocity (like a baseball bat) so says Joe R, while I believe Kimbo has more sheer force power... What im saying is Kimbo has (or HAD) A whole hell of a lot of POTENTIAL... ill take Bas Ruttens opinion over ALL of yours anyday of the week!

Rutten was TRAINING Dumbo, of Coooouuurse he's gonna talk good about him, he was getting PAID! Sorry, I'll take what EVERY OTHER MMA fighter says about Dumbo over what a guy who is getting PAID to train him says. Even if that guy IS one of the top 5 MMA fighters of all time. If what Bas said was true, believe it, the UFC would have jumped on that gravy train a long time ago. If for no other reason than to make a buck.
As for Dumbo having mad power in his hands... are you serious?? Bare knuckled and I didn't see him knock ONE person out with one punch! Think Chuck, AA, Fedor, A. Silva, W. Silva, Lesnar.... think any of them would have knocked out one of those street fighting fools with one punch without gloves on?? Shit, they'd have done it with pillows on!
Get off Dumbo's nuts and come back to reality, Omar. You must be related to him.
