A day after Heath Herring pulled out of UFC 99 because of an illness, the card just got better: Cheick Kongo will step in for Herring and fight Cain Velasquez in the co-main event.
Thomas Gerbasi of UFC.com was the first to report the news, which means the UFC 99 card will now have two very exciting heavyweight bouts: Kongo vs. Velasquez and Mirko Cro Cop vs. Mostapha Al Turk. The winner of the Kongo-Velasquez fight would firmly establish himself as a Top 10 heavyweight and would probably only be another win away from getting a heavyweight title shot.
UFC 99 takes place on June 13 in Cologne, Germany. The main event at UFC 99 is Rich Franklin vs. Wanderlei Silva.

Me too. I think Silva is spent. Four or five years ago I would have picked Silva to stop Franklin in brutal fashion, now I think Franklin has a chance. Plus i just think the octagon is usually too big for Silva, (i say usually because they change sizes depending on the venue).
Kongo vs. Vasquez seems to be the best fight on the card. I think Vasquez wins this, we'll see.

I was extremely impressed last time with Velasquez. I know he faced a bunch of nobody's but he seemed confident last fight even in the striking.
Kongo as more experience and is a better striker then anyone velasquez has faced. It is a very good fight. Proops to UFC for comming up big here
