In most sports, an athlete betting money on his own competition would be a major no-no. But in boxing and mixed martial arts, it's considered completely acceptable for a fighter to put money on himself. And that's what UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans has done. Evans, in Las Vegas to fight Lyoto Machida Saturday night at UFC 98, says that he stopped by a casino and put down some money -- he won't say how much -- on himself to win the fight.
Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review-Journal quotes Evans as saying:
"I'm coming into this fight still the underdog. Every time I fight, people pick against me. ...Even though he's the champion, Evans is a -210 underdog, meaning that if he bet, say, $10,000 on himself, he'll collect $21,000 from the casino if he pulls it out. I'm picking Machida, but I like Evans' confidence.
"Most of (Machida's) fights, I've seen something I can use for myself. He doesn't get hit much, but he does have holes."

LOL...this is poetic justice. Evans not only lost his belt, but his money too. Maybe he won't disrespect other fighters by grabbing his crotch in the middle of fight again. The only thing Evans grabbed in the cage tonight were some Zzzzz's. Evans was no champ, as far as I'm concerned, he should have been forced to forfeit the belt after the fight with Forrest, for un-sportsman like conduct. The UFC fighters have always shown class, in victory and defeat, all of them except Evans. Karma is a bitch, isn't it Sugar, a little bitter?

Evans is a good fighter, but his ego obscures reality. when ramapage defeated jardine and evans got in the ring talkin about "f*&k you motherf*&^er " I thought that was one of THE most disrepctful things I have ever witnessed in the sport. Evans never acted like a champ. He acted like a pro wrestler. Good riddance!!!!! Machida has way more skill and class. It's only fitting that he is king of the most dynamic and exciting weight classes in the UFC. Cheers to Machida handing Rashad his ass in front of millions! His reign will be a long one and definitely exciting to watch!!!!!
