WEC 41: Faber vs. Brown 2 Live Blog

Urijah Faber kicks Mike BrownThe biggest featherweight fight in MMA history will take place Sunday night when World Extreme Cagefighting champion Mike Brown defends his title against Urijah Faber at WEC 41 in Sacramento, and we'll be live blogging the fight.

The undercard is over, and the Brown-Faber fight is on. The live blog begins below.

Mike Brown vs. Urijah Faber
Faber is making his way to the cage to huge cheers. Faber is in the cage.
Brown is making his way to the cage to loud boos. Brown is in the cage.
Round 1: This fight is underway. They touch gloves and Faber misses with a couple of kicks. Faber is more active and now they clinch up with Brown getting underhooks. Brown has Faber against the cage. Now Faber pushes him away. Faber lands a good right hand. Nice combination from Faber. Faber goes for a guillotine. Now he's out. They're on the ground. Brown has Faber's back. One of Faber's punches has opened up a cut over Brown's eye. Brown lands a couple of big knees. Faber now comes back with a couple of knees. I don't know how long they can keep up this pace but it's a great fight so far. Faber lands a good combination. Faber slips on a kick and Brown jumps on top of him. Brown has side control. Brown is working for a guillotine. Great first round that I give to Faber, 10-9.

Round 2: Faber throws a kick and misses. Faber is throwing a lot of front kicks and throwing Brown off his rhythm. Brown lands his best combination of punches of the fight. Faber lands a leg kick and then Brown lands a big punch, and now they're on the ground with Brown on top. Brown lands a couple of elbows from the top. Brown is in control on the ground with 2:40 to go in the round. They get to their feet but Brown is still controlling Faber in the clinch. Now they go to the ground and Faber tries for a guillotine, but Brown pulls free. Brown tried a single-leg takedown after they stood up briefly, and Faber did a great job of maintaining his balance. Front kick lands for Faber. Faber throws an elbow. Brown takes Faber down near the cage but Faber gets back up. Another great round that I give to Brown, 10-9.

Round 3: Brown backs Faber up with a couple of punches and then Faber throws a kick. Faber lands a flying knee and then a right hand. Now they go to the ground and Brown wants a guillotine. Faber gets out of it but Brown has his back. They're back to their feet. A good knee for Faber. Brown throws a frint kick. Faber throws a right elbow and another knee. Brown is controlling the cage, but when they separate Faber is landing more strikes. Brown has Faber on the ground and is going for a heel hook. But Faber gets back up again. Faber is doing a great job of getting up off the mat when Brown has him down. Brown lands a big right hand. Faber appears to have injured his own right hand. This has been an absolutely spectacular fight. I give the third to Brown, 10-9.

Round 4: Faber told his corner he has a broken hand. He's continuing to fight, thiough, and he landed a good kick. Faber just looks like he can't punch anymore because of his hand injury, and he's just throwing elbows and kicks. Faber is in a lot of trouble if he can't find a more effective way to strike. Brown is controlling the action here as Faber has a limited arsenal. Both fighters are looking tired. Two good elbows from Faber, who is an absolute warrior for continuing to fight without the use of his hand. Brown is really starting to control this fight. Another good round, which I give to Brown, 10-9.

Round 5: Faber threw a good left hand, so it must be his right that is broken. Faber wants to go for a takedown. He lands a bodykick but now it's brown who takes Faber down. Faber wanted a guillotine but with his broken hand he couldn't do it. They get back up and Faber lands a couple of elbows. Faber wants a guillotine but Brown slams him. Brown is hurting Faber on the ground and then they get back up. Faber just keeps throwing those elbows because he doesn't want to punch with his injured hand. Brown has a good takedown but Faber amazingly gets back up again. Brown lands a couple of knees. Faber gets Brown down and is going for a choke but he couldn't secure it because of his hand. Now he goes for a guillotine and Brown gets out again. Less than a minute left. Faber tries a kickand misses. Brown has a takedown and gets Faber's back. Faber lands an elbow and gets Brown down, but Brown will hold on and I'll give the fifth to Brown, 10-9. I'll tell you what the judges say as soon as it's over.

Mike Brown beats Urijah Faber by unanimous decision.
