This is the UFC 99 live blog for the undercard fight between Cain Velasquez and Cheick Kongo.Velasquez and Kongo are a couple of heavyweights who both have their eyes on the championship belt. Kongo has an impressive 14-4-1 record, including 7-2 in the UFC, while Velasquez is a youngster who's 5-0 in his MMA career.
The Cheick Kongo vs. Cain Velasquez fight will start at 4:50 PM ET, and the live blog begins below.
Cheick Kongo vs. Cain Velasquez:
They're making their way to the Octagon. Kongo on the way out first. Both fighters are now in the Octagon.
Round 1: This fight is underway. Good jabs from Kongo. Cain was hurt but then he got the takedown. Now Cain is landing some punches. Cain is landing some solid shots on Kongo on the ground. Cain has side control, this is not where Kongo wants to be at all. Full mount now for Cain. Kongo is in big trouble as Cain tries to sink in a choke. Kongo is out of the choke but now Cain is on top of him punching him. They get back up but Cain takes Kongo right back down. Cain lands a couple punches, so does Kongo. Cain has really controlled this fight on the ground. Kongo is absorbing a lot of punishment here. Cain is a beast, he's really landing a lot of hard punches. Kongo lands an elbow, but Cain comes back with more punches on the top. Kongo gets up but Cain slams him back down. Kongo's ground game is simply not good enough to fight a skilled wrestler like Cain. Kongo just wants to hold on and survive the round. Tough first round that I give to Velasquez, 10-9.
Round 2: Kongo misses with a jab. Cain lands a punch and then Kongo hurts Cain with a big punch. But now they're back on the ground. Cain takes Kongo to the ground. Cain is just dominating when they get to the ground. Kongo has no answer on the ground at all. Cain is completely destroying Kongo on the ground. Kongo is showing a lot of heart just holding on here, but Cain is really beating him badly. Kongo has no answer at all. Another easy round for Velasquez, 10-9.
Round 3: Kongo is going to need a knockout to win this fight. Kongo landed a good punch, but Cain got inside, and that's where Kongo doesn't want to be. Now Kongo takes Velasquez down. Cain is bleeding from a hard punch from Kongo, but he's still dominating the fight on the ground. Cain is totally destroying Kongo on the ground and Kongo just has to get back up. Kongo had a real chance to hurt Cain standing up but now Cain has taken the fight back down. Now Cain is in side control with 90 seconds to go. Kongo probably lost his last, best chance. Cain is in full mount and raining punches down. This fight is over. I'll be shocked if it's not a unanimous decision for Cain Velasquez.
Cain Velasquez beats Cheick Kongo by unanimous decision.

before anyone begins to say that cain beat someone who wasn't that good anyways. let us go back to any of these blogs about this fight. maybe 95% of everyone that posted said that there is no way that cain wins this fight, or ppl (including myself) said that they can't see kongo losing this fight. which means the same thing, but wow. cain is an absolute monster. he has destroyed everyone he has faced and now i am a fan of his. he has won in such a decisive fashion, he should have won many fans tonite.
as far as kongo is concerned, Cain has showed a lot of heart. so kongo should go back to wrestling camp and learn a thing or two from working from the back, or just the ground period. he sucks on the ground, his standup is actually not bad. i was impressed by the big shots he landed its just that Cain had a mindset for this match and executed. maybe ppl should stop taking fights on such a short notice.

Wow KWILBUR10 your comment was the best I ever read... And switched from Kongo fan to Cain Fan is awesome!
Cheick, is one of the best MMA fighters to watch, and his punches can bring down a bull!, but not if it's a Mexicain bull.
The power to kill the spirit of a Mexican man comes from within, and tonight at UFC 99 Kongo and the rest of the MMA world experienced the heart and “brown pride” of a true
Mexicain!
Congrats to Cain on being a father to baby girl Coral BTW.
Cain has the ground skills of a master.
Cain won ground control, takedowns, and number of punches including passing the guard,
what a great fight!
Kongo hit Cain with everything he could and he still beat him down, hats off to both Cain and Kongo for taking some of the
"greatest HW punches in a match on UFC."

i don't know if that was sarcasm but i am still a fan of kongo its just i wish he would work on his ground game a bit. i am a cain fan now, so i will jump on that bandwagon until he retires now.
on a side note, i couldn't tell if his tattoo said bronx pride or brown pride. but now i know.

KWILBUR10, never sarcasm just respect for your honesty.
I am a Cain fan and respect when another Fan comes over to Cain. I believe Cain will be the next HW Champion. Congo was no joke and beating him says allot about Cain.
