UFC 99 Live Blog: Swick vs. Saunders

This is the UFC 99 live blog for the undercard fight between Ben Saunders and Mike Swick.

Swick and Saunders are a pair of former Ultimate Fighter contestants who are hoping for a big win Saturday to prove they deserve to be considered among the elite of the welterweight division.

Ben Saunders vs. Mike Swick:
Saunders is in the Octagon. Swick is in the Octagon.
Round 1: This fight is underway. Swick shoots right in and takes Saunders down immediately. Swick is on top and Saunders is clinging to him in guard. Swick is landing a lot of punches but Saunders is holding him so tightly that there's not much power on any of them. Swick is now yelling at Saunders: "Are you going to f**king hold me all night?" Swick is getting angry at Saunders, but Saunders isn't doing anything wrong. Saunders is doing exactly what you should do if you get taken down. Now Swick stands up and Saunders tries a couple up kicks. But Swick comes back down and Saunders pulls guard again until the ref stands them up. Good body kick from Saunders. Good couple of punches from Swick. Saunders wants to control Swick in the Thai clinch. Good knee from Saunders. A fairly slow-paced round goes to Swick, 10-9.

Round 2: Saunders goes for a high kick. Swick tries a couple of knees but when they're in the clinch on their feet Saunders looks more comfortable. Swick gets a great takedown and mounts Saunders. But then Saunders pulls guard with a hip escape. Saunders looks very comfortable with Swick in his guard. Now they're stood back up. It's basically a stalemate right now on the feet. Swick lands a couple of very hard punches and now Saunders is hurt. And it's over!

Mike Swick beats Ben Saunders by second-round TKO (strikes)
