Tim Sylvia's shocking nine-second knockout loss to Ray Mercer on Saturday has proven to be more costly than originally thought. Affliction Entertainment vice president, Tom Atencio, informed FanHouse on Monday that Sylvia has now been taken off the upcoming "Affliction: Trilogy" card. "It's his second knockout in a row, and I don't want to take a chance on anything," Atencio said. "The fight is less than 60 days away."Atencio added that no one from the California State Athletic Commission contacted him about taking Sylvia off the card, but he felt it was in Sylvia's best interest to take some time off to heal.
Atencio said that Paul Buentello will still fight on the card, and will probably face the winner of the Pedro Rizzo-Gilbert Yvel fight, which takes place at the June 27 "Ultimate Chaos" event in Biloxi, Miss.
On Sunday, Buentello told FanHouse that he wished Sylvia never took the fight to begin with.
"... You gotta take a step back and go, 'Man, you know, it would be great to fight him but what would it do for me now? What would it do for me now in front of the fans?' I don't know if the hype is still there after him getting beat," Buentello said.
"Affliction: Trilogy" is scheduled to take place on August 1 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. The event is headlined by Fedor Emelianenko vs. Josh Barnett.

What a foolish move on Tim's part. Being tall and cocky never equals skill. Ray a old guy who is past his prime, he served his country and has done alot with what skills he has got, so that is a huge feather in his cap. But Tim has fallen way below what he once was and could have been. When you burn bridges such as the UFC and other related business plus friendships that keep money in your pocket and your name out there, well you become desperate!!! He got paid for this fight but it cost him everything NOW!!!!!!!

considering mercer was pretty much thrashed by a mma novice (in kimbo slice)....i'd say it was a huge upset in an mma match, if it were a boxing match then it would be the other way around. educate yourself before you begin the standard "i love boxing, mma sucks" rant.

Some of the UFC..MMA.. ARE pro boxers having won golden glove titles etc...they stand as good as chance as any other boxer...a square ring with ropes or an octogon makes no difference....thats why they are referred to as stand up style...they are in fact boxers by training with the other style skills as well. Boxing is known for the one punch knockout that even a below average skilled fighter occasionally wins by, thats why it is well known that any fighter can defeat another fighter with a "lucky" punch. Luck counts in all sports!

Ha. In the early days and before, w/o even much striking, the Gracies WERE ALREADY trouncing professional boxers right and left w/ grappling alone.
Crow all you want about a one-shot fluke; it's as ridiculous as the karateka crowing over Machida when he's the same. But crowing over a fluke is all it is until you get Pussy Boy Floyd and his ilk to man up and put it on the line.
Me, hope to see it soon. And if Tim Sylvia (who I never liked much anyway, too one-dimensional) has to be the sacrificial lamb to get the boxers overconfident enough to man up? GOOD!

Yeah, I should've seen that one coming he was always a big bully trading on his size rather than skill. I only caught a few off his fights over the years but I did attend classes at one his supposed facilities until it folded it's tents in the middle of the night. Off course, I never saw him there so I only have the word of one fly-by-night instructor that Tim was even associated with the place.

MMA is a sport. Some fighters get overconfident in there stand-up to try and prove something, only to get layed out. That being said, for you to think that a "boxer" has a chance on the ground with a jiu-jitsu guy your fooling yourself. Jiu-jitsu isn't entertaining to someone that knows nothing about it, just like boxing is boring to someone who isn't a fan.
