Gina Carano, Cris Cyborg Don't Want to Say What They Weigh

Gina Carano and Cristiane Santos (better known as Cris Cyborg) will step into the cage in the main event of the August 15 Strikeforce show in what is being billed as the biggest fight in the history of women's MMA. But there's a looming question over the fight: Can Carano and Cyborg make weight? And on a call Thursday to promote the bout, neither Carano nor Cyborg was in the mood to discuss it.

I asked both Carano and Cyborg how much they weigh right now, and how confident they are that they can get down to 145 pounds in time for the weigh-in. I didn't get much of an answer.

"I'd rather keep to myself how much I weigh right now, but I've never had any problems going down to 145," Carano said. "I've had trouble getting down to 140 and 135. ... I think 145 is a perfect weight for me and I don't foresee either one of us having a problem. I'm sorry for my mistakes in the past, but I had some reasons for it and I don't think I'm going to have any trouble making 145."

So Carano wouldn't say what she weighs, but she still said more than Cyborg, who didn't answer the question at all before the PR person running the call asked his own question.

I'm not sure why Carano and Cyborg aren't willing to talk about their weight; I've asked dozens of fighters about their weight and they're usually perfectly happy to talk about it. But I am sure this issue isn't going away until they both step on the scale at 145 pounds or less on August 14.
