Georges St. Pierre showed once again at UFC 100 that he's by far the best 170-pound fighter in the world, and he showed a lot more than that: He showed in his preparation for his fight with Thiago Alves, in his decisive victory inside the Octagon, and in his class and dignity after the fight that he's everything a champion should be.
How tough is St. Pierre? So tough that he didn't even flinch when he heard his groin muscle tear during the third round when Alves was on top of him. Instead he just patiently continued fighting on the ground, regained his composure, and executed his game plan.
"It's pretty bad," St. Pierre said after the fight of his injury. "It happened in the third round, when I was in the bottom, he pushed my leg down, and I heard the noise of my groin, my abductor, snap. And I was thinking, 'Oh, my God, the fight is not even over and I'm on the bottom.' ... I ended up scrambling, getting up and winning the fight."
How good is St. Pierre? After all three judges gave him all five rounds of Saturday's fight, he has now won every round of every fight for five consecutive fights, against probably his five toughest opponents: Matt Hughes, Matt Serra, Jon Fitch, BJ Penn and Thiago Alves. That left UFC announcer Joe Rogan wondering "It's a rout," Rogan said. "It really is a rout. This kid is so good. ... Who the hell is next?"
How classy is St. Pierre? So classy that when Rogan asked him after the fight to talk about his dominance of the welterweight division, St. Pierre instead praised Alves.
"Thiago Alves was my toughest opponent so far," St. Pierre said. "He's very young and he'll come back stronger next time."
It's impossible not to contrast St. Pierre to Brock Lesnar, who, after winning his heavyweight title fight, taunted his fallen opponent, made obscene gestures to the fans and talked about his plans to get on top of his wife. To his credit, Lesnar apologized in his post-fight press conference. St. Pierre, however, is the type of athlete who doesn't have to issue public apologies because he doesn't make public spectacles of himself. He just trains hard, fights hard, and wins. That's a champion.

Quotes of UFC 100
"I apologize to Bud Light. I'm not biased, I drink any beer. And tonight I'm drinking Bud Light all night." -- Brock Lesnar, at the post-fight press conference, trying to make peace with one of the UFC's major sponsors after saying in the Octagon that he was going to drink a Coors Light because Bud Light doesn't give him any money.
"I want to apologize. I acted very unprofessionally after the fight. ... I screwed up and I apologize. I have nothing against Frank." -- More Lesnar, acknowledging he was wrong in the way he addressed the fans and Frank Mir.
UFC 100 Awards
Fight of the Night: Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Alan Belcher, a good three-round fight to get the night started.
Knockout of the Night: Dan Henderson, of course, for knocking Michael Bisping cold.
Submission of the Night: Tom Lawlor, who choked out CB Dollaway with a guillotine in less than a minute.
Akiyama, Belcher, Henderson and Lawlor each get $100,000 bonuses.
Good call: I agree with judge who gave Akiyama a 29-28 win over Belcher; that's how I scored the fight. I've been surprised by how many people are saying Belcher was robbed in his split decision loss, as I saw it as a close fight that Akiyama narrowly won.
Bad call: The UFC should have mentioned on the pay-per-view broadcast that it had moved the Jon Fitch-Paulo Thiago fight to the end of the night. The last-minute change in schedule, done to ensure that everyone would see the Lesnar-Mir fight in its entirety before 1 AM ET, confused some fans.
Ground game: Mir is so comfortable in his Brazilian jiu jitsu that even when he had the 275-pound Lesnar on top of him, he looked calm and relaxed. He wasn't able to use his jiu jitsu, of course, and he was eventually pounded out, but it's remarkable how confident Mir is on the ground, even against a monster of a man who was an NCAA heavyweight champion wrestler. Stock up: Mark Coleman, who beat Stephan Bonnar in an undercard bout between two UFC legends who are past their primes. "That's why I do this!" Coleman screamed as he walked back to the Octagon. "No feeling in the world like this!" Coleman is in his 40s and will never be a champion again, but I still enjoy seeing him fight. Congratulations, Mark.
Stock down: Paulo Thiago, who came into his fight with Jon Fitch undefeated, but came out of it with a loss, looking lackluster in the process.
Fight I want to see next: Brock Lesnar vs. Fedor Emelianenko. That's the heavyweight fight that has to happen, assuming Fedor wins his August 1 fight with Josh Barnett. In a great piece of news for MMA fans, UFC President Dana White said after UFC 100 that he expects it to happen. Please, Dana and Fedor: Put your differences behind you and give us the biggest fight in MMA history.

I agree with the writer's words about GSP. Although Alves looks like he is talking every body-building steroid, GH, insulin and other drugs, he was not able to get off many of those nasty kicks or big punches that he is known for because GSP is such a brilliant tactician.
Personally, I don't care if Lesnar said "I am sorry," for I think he was told to say that. Deep inside his massive frame is a steel heart and atop is a head with a child's brain. With his post-fight antics, he set the sport back a decade.

GSP and Alves are the 2 biggest guys in their division. Both of them look like there on hgh or steroids. GSP has been accused of greasing by Penn, Hughes, Serra, and others. GSP has also bad mouthed Serra on radio after Serra beat him in their first match. I'm just amazed at how many people make him sound like some nice guy.

GSP had the most boring fight Saturday night. I went from being pumped watch that limey bastard Bisbing get his puck ass knocked out to falling asleep in my chiar. I give him credit for finishing the fight with a groin injury, but If your so well rounded of a fighter and a true champion the strike with a stiker and go to the ground with a ground guy. That's why I love Anderson Silva because he will stand there and take you out with your own tricks. It's one thing to fight a techinical fight on the ground but it's a damn shame to watch a champion really just do just enough to win.

Say what you want about anybody, they all are still incredibly skilled (yes, even Brock. He was smart in that fight and escaped a leg submission early in the first round). It's all different strokes, people. Not every fighter is going to be the quintessential perfect Human being. Wanderlei Silva is probably as close as it gets.

I disagree with most of these comments, all GSP did was lay on the guy. He does not go for any submissions or try to knock anyone out , just ground and pound, I find him boring and can predict how all of his fights will go. I like Brock just the way he is, with and edge. Fighters today are too friendly and nice before the fight, they don't even stare down each other anymore. I got excited about the fight when Brock refused to touch glove. I do however like them to be kind and show respect "after" the fight.

I sort of agree with u and I don't. Before gsp got his title shot he was looking awesome finishing fights and str8 up working people with his striking. Now we are seeing a technician at work. I don't mind what he is doing but I do miss gsp of old. Where he actually looked to finish, now he is just laying on top of people and not getting hurt while doing some damage from the top.
As for lesnar all I can say is lol. I thought what he did was rather hilarious. He just wears his emotions on his sleeves and says what's on his mind. We have enough people doing the good sportmanship thing why not have an ass to root against. Even though I do root for lesnar. Lol. Wow he made Mir look bad so bad that he looked depressed after the fight.

I don't understand why people are getting all worked up about UFC. It's not a real sport. In real fight sports a guy with a 2-1 professional record and 1-1 UFC record would not get a title fight. In real sports you have to actually earn title fights. So I don't care about anyone's sportsmanship, UFC is just pro wrestling without predetermined outcomes.

Lesnar's jive-ass, post fight antics were absolutely ridiculous and solidified his role as the arch-villian in the heavy weight class. The sad thing (or exciting thing) is that he is here to stay for a long time. I just hope that they can find some good fighters big enough to hang with Lesnar. Mir is awesome, but you cant give up 30 lbs. to someone that strong and athletic who also has a corner of top-shelf trainers like Greg Nelson and Erik Paulson. I just hope Carwin can step up and give Lesnar a run for his money. Cain Velasquez will eventually get a shot too, but I think at this point the only hope for competition is Carwin because of his size and strength. Maybe one day White can land Fedor. For a while though, you better get used to Lesnar's clown show.

Please, please, please Dana White sign Fedor!
Do what ever it takes. You might not like Fedor, but he won't be the ruination of your sport....Lesnar makes UFC look silly as long as he is champion - Fedor will end that, have no doubt.

srsly enough with grease gate, the vaseline was more likely to be rub off from BJ than it was a plot to stop the one submission Penn tried for. also GSP has beaten Matt twice, one that I dont think he should have won or should be ruled a NC due to ref stupidity, but thats what the record books show.

The scary thing is that Lesnar is only going to get BETTER. As he has always been a big show ticket and brings financial independence to the table from his WWE days, he can train with the best in the world full time. This is a huge advantage because very few heavyweights can devote 100% of their time and energy to train without having to work a real job at lease some of the time. I believe Shane Carwin still has to go be an engineer many days out of the year while Lesnar is pulling huge tires and pounding mits every day. This dude is ain't going anywhere unless White can sign Fedor, and by then, Lesnar may be so good that even he can't beat him.

Did anyone else notice that the ring looked like they had slaughtered a pig in it before the broadcast of the first fight? Anyone know which fight all the blood was from?
I was really looking forward to watching the undercards after the main events only to be disappointed thinking I paid $55 and missed the best fight of the night.
