Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal will face Mark Kerr and Fedor Emelianenko will spar with Gegard Mousasi at M-1 Global's "Breakthrough" event on Aug. 28 in Kansas City, the promotion announced Monday.
The venue has been changed from the Los Angeles Convention Center in Calif. to the Memorial Hall due to "a partner in Los Angeles that backed out of certain commitments," according to M-1 Global COO Joost Raimond. The Memorial Hall previously played host to an M-1 Challenge card in June.
Two-time UFC heavyweight tournament winner Kerr (15-10) is stepping in for Don Frye, who pulled out of the Lawal fight upon learning of the venue change. Kerr is a beloved UFC veteran but has not been a factor for the past nine years, compiling 10 losses in 13 fights.
Lawal (4-0), an accomplished amateur wrestler of Team Quest, recently completed his contract with World Victory Road in Japan and is taking his first step outside of the Sengoku organization. Lawal's outgoing persona and his TKO wins have garnered him a strong fan base in Japan, and he'll see if his appeal translates back home in the US.
M-1 Global will also pit its two top clients in a sparring exhibition on the card. Fedor, who sparred with Shinya Aoki for a demonstration in April at an M-1 Challenge event in Japan (see video), will face fellow Strikeforce fighter and training partner Gegard Mousasi. The match will be two weeks after Mousasi's Strikeforce title challenge against Renato "Babalu" Sobral and a couple months before Fedor's yet to be announced Strikeforce debut in the fall.
The actual fight in support of the Lawal-Kerr main event will be former Bodog Fight champion Nick "The Goat' Thompson taking on Karl Amoussou.

ARE YOU FRIGGING KIDDING ME?
THIS IS THE KIND OF SH!T THAT'S GOING TO MAKE M-1 CREDIBLE?
M-1 GLOBAL IS A MADE UP RUSSIAN MOB JOKE!
A SPARRING MATCH..WTF IS THAT.
AND MARK KERR? HE WAS, I REPEAT WAS, MY FAVORITE FIGHTER OF ALL TIME. WHEN KERR WAS THE MAN, HE WAS THE BEST AND KERR IN HIS PRIME WOULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT MATCH WITH FEDOR....NOW HE IS JUST A CIRCUS CLOWN. A CARICATURE OF MICKEY ROURKES, "THE WRESTLER".
ANYONE THAT HAS THE BALLS TO BASH ZUFFA FOR NOT CO PROMOTING WITH THESE D!CKHEADS, WAKE UP AND SMELL THE DOGSH!T THEY ARE TRYING TO SERVE UP.
AND ANYONE STUPID ENOUGH TO PAY FOR THIS IN ANY WAY, IS A COMPLETE AND UDDER MORON.
THIS IS THE COMPANY FEDOR IS ALIGNED WITH?...I THINK FUJITA OR RANDLEMAN MUST HAVE KNOCKED SOME SENSE OUT OF HIM.
YOU GUYS CALL THIS A CREDIBLE COMPANY TO CO-PROMOTE WITH. GIVE ME A F#$KING BREAK!!!
THIS IS AN EMBARRASSMENT TO MMA!
CAPS LOCK TURNED ON.
Did you forget to take your pills this morning neo?
Don't overreact or anything ... lol
Lawal was supposed to fight Don Frye but I guess he didn't want it with King Mo after all ... Kerr is just a name to give the card a little credibility. Nothing more, nothing less.
I don't want to see Fedor and Mousasi spar though ... The one with Aoki was pretty entertaining.
Sit back ... relax ... and BREATHE ... it will all be OK ... no one killed your baby kitten. yet.
correction:
I DO want to see Fedor and Mousasi spar.
This exhibition was done months ago, long before Fedor was a "free-agent." Why they put this footage up again is beyong stupid.
Did you read the article?
Reading is fundamental.
"M-1 Global will also pit its two top clients in a sparring exhibition on the card. ****Fedor, who sparred with Shinya Aoki for a demonstration in April**** at an M-1 Challenge event in Japan**** (see video),**** will face fellow Strikeforce fighter and training partner Gegard Mousasi."
i bet rj is all over this, his fantasy lover fedor is fighting
Mark Kerr "the smashing machine".How old is he? I think I watched his documetary like 10 years ago.He was washed up then. The last time I saw him fight he knocked himself out with a takedown.Good luck Mark.
Fedor is by far my favorite second rate fighter...
Hendo must be your next favorite second rate fighter.
Of course. Hendo is second rate because he has fought washouts and rejects for almost four years now
Fedor the True Russian Bear! I think Fedor was quite impressive as he toyed with his small opponent. However, I hope he gets some big fights soon while he is still in his prime.
