M-1 Rounds Out 'Breakthrough' Card

M-1 Global's "Breakthrough" event has suffered its fair share of setbacks. First, the organization was forced to move the card from Los Angeles to Kansas City, and then one-half of their main event, Don Frye, pulled out his scheduled fight against Muhammad Lawal. He was replaced by veteran Mark Kerr.

The organization recently added a five-minute "special sparring match" between Fedor Emelianenko and Gegard Mousasi to the card to help generate some buzz.

FanHouse has learned of the entire televised card, which is scheduled to air live on HDNet on Friday, August 28.

Muhammad Lawal (4-0) vs. Mark Kerr (15-10)
Nick Thompson (38-11-1) vs. Karl Amoussou (10-2-1)
Fedor Emelianenko vs. Gegard Mousasi -- Special sparring exhibition
Lucio Linhares (12-4) vs. Mikhail Zayats (8-3)
Jesse Gibbs (7-2) vs. Rob Broughton (10-4-1)
Lloyd "Kadillac" Marshbanks (17-8) vs. Michael Kita (5-3)
Daisuke Nakamura (19-10) vs. Ferrid Kheder (14-3)

The Gibbs-Broughton heavyweight bout was supposed to take place on the undercard of the canceled "Affliction: Trilogy" event.

M-1 officials are banking on the Nakamura-Kheder lightweight tilt to start the show in an exciting fashion. Nakamura, who recently lost to Mitsuhiro Ishida at DREAM.7, will face a tough test in the form of Kheder. The Tunisian-born fighter is known for his judo skills, and has won his last eight fights in a row. He holds a win over veteran Drew Fickett, and lost to UFC welterweight Paulo Thiago in July 2008.

The rest of the undercard will be announced at a later date.
