Nick Diaz has signed a contract to box professionally in addition to his commitments in MMA with Strikeforce, longtime boxing promoter Don Chargin announced Thursday."When the subject of mixed martial arts versus boxing arises, it always comes down to the boxer winning a boxing match easily and vice versa for MMA," Chargin said in a release. "However, after having seen the replays of Diaz's fights over the course of his career, I truly believe that this kid has what it takes to really make for some very entertaining fights within boxing. While some would state that he's merely a slugger possessing a good chin and a heavy work rate, there's something about his rhythm and fighting intelligence that really caught my eye."
Terms of the agreement and a fight date were not revealed.
Diaz (20-7) is currently without a fight after his removal Tuesday from Saturday's Strikeforce card after skipping a drug test to avoid the possibility of a suspension. Diaz is an open user of cannabis, which he is legally allowed to take in California for attention deficit disorder.
"A positive test would not only have barred him from participating on Aug. 15, but would have also made him ineligible to fight for over a year in California, thus making his rematch fight with Joe Riggs a remote possibility," states GracieFighter.com, the official website of Diaz's camp. "After weighing all options, it was decided that his best option would be to forego this fight."
Diaz has boxed once before as a super middleweight (167 pounds), winning a four-round decision on a card in April 2005 in Sacramento, Calif.

diaz is going to do good in boxing. he's one of the few mma fighters that actually has good boxing skills, plus he's tough as can be.

Richard shut yer mouth man you dont know a damn thing about boxing. Alot of MMA fighters have good boxing skills like Bj Penn, Diego Sanchez, Rampage, Jardine, Franke Edgar, and on and on and on.
You dont know a damn thing about boxing so stop pretending you got something intelligent to say.
Diaz is going to be a good boxer because he has some decent boxing skills and most of all cardio like no other.

you know what retro, you listed guys with virtually zero boxing skills except edgar.
you're such a dumbaz you dont even realize most guys standup is based in muay thai, not boxing. diaz bro.s are one of the exceptions to that rule. have you ever even been in a mma gym? you're a complete poser. what a wank.

nick knows what he is doing... boxing is where the money is... diaz is not going to make good money chokeing poeple out... ive been saying this for a long time.. the ufc and mma fighters make nothing... the owners get everything while the fighters get beat up.. this is whats going to kill the sport. i really dont see diaz making a big splash in boxing... his power doesent seem like much. his speed is kind of regular.. i beieve he will win some fights. the one thing i know is that he will make more money boxing. mma and ufc is getting boreing.. poeple are starting to see that. its fun to watch when theres nothing on tv.

you mma and ufc fans remeber one thing.. the difference in the gloves that mma ufc use and boxing use. the style is also different.. the punching style is different. the way an mma or ufc fighter punches to the head. and the way a boxer punches to te head. i see these mma ufc fighters getting hit in the face maybe 30 times a fight. but its hardley ever a precise blow. when a boxer is trained he is shown how to knock you out with one blow if he can connect it. usually a temple or end of the jaw shot... its a whole different game.. if diaz can learn all this and get better speed and more power he can do well..

most mma fighters dont have any boxing skills... they pure brawlers.. they posses more martial arts skill if anything.. i watch the fights. they would not last long in a boxing ring.. its just they way it is.. that is why they fight mma and not boxing... im pretty sure alot of mma fighters tried there hand at boxing and realized they didnt have what it takes. mma is an updated version of the tough man competitions... mostly brawlers.. dont get me wrong lots of them have crazy skills at fighting... just not at boxing.. and you poeple commenting that alot of them have skills at boxing dont know nothing about boxing...

I have been an extreme boxing fan for over 50 years and never thought MMA would reach the height in popularity it has - but it has. It is absolutely great. Dana White has done miracles with this sport as have many great fighters like B J Penn and Nick Diaz my two favorites. MMA requires some skills in an assortment of disciplines all combining into a package. Nick does not have sufficient boxing skills to stand out in the sport of boxing which is a specialty. That is like saying a general doctor could specialize in a portion of medicine. Never the less best of luck and the experience will him that much better at what he does.
