Gegard Mousasi dominates the fight against Babalu Sobral, winning the fight in one minute at the Strikeforce event on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, in San Jose, California.

The official stoppage from referee Josh Rosenthal came at 4:59 of the first round -- right before the buzzer sounded -- and at first there was some question as to whether Rosenthal had stopped the fight or just the first round. But Carano was being battered badly by Cyborg, and Rosenthal made the correct decision to protect Carano and end the fight.
"I want to thank Gina Carano for the opportunity, and I want to thank the fans," the Brazilian Cyborg said afterward, through her translator. "The key tonight was five years of training."
Carano applauded Cyborg and embraced her in the cage afterward, but she did not speak during the Showtime broadcast, as it was explained that she was being checked out by the on-site medical personnel.Cyborg improved her record to 8-1, while Carano fell to 7-1. Cyborg is now the Strikeforce 145-pound women's champion, and it's a safe bet that if Carano wins another fight, she'll get a shot at Cyborg's title. But she'll have to get a lot better if she's going to beat the new champion. Cyborg is for real.

That fight ended like a half a second before the round ended. I'm sad to Gina lose to Cris. She's so damn powerful.

Not to take anything away from either fighter, but half way through the fight I seriously started thinking that Cyborg has at the very least; abused steroids, at worst is a post-op sex change participant. Either way, she definitely had an unfair advantage. Did anyone else have these thoughts?

I am extremely sad as well. I at least expected a little something new from Gina or maybe just a little more heart. Julie showed more heart against Gina than Gina showed against Cyborg. Now that being said I am still a loyal Gina fan and think that Cyborg only won because she has become a dude with a pussy from taking steroids. Yes, athletes get away with that all the time and that is why I will watch her fights, for the same reason I watch Lesnar, I just want to see them go down.

You haven't heard the last of Gina Carano.
The big star of the night was Gegard Mousasi.

As I've said before I feel that Erin Toughill is the best fighter in women's MMA. I might move Cyborg in front of Coenen for second at this point but Cyborg is not the best fighter in women's MMA.
It was a great fight but I think Carano blew two golden chances when she ended up in full mount after Cyborg went for two takedowns. You could tell both girls were zapped of energy after the first few minutes. It wasn't a highly technical fight for the most part but was still a brutal slugfest and a great fight for a great time in MMA history.
Let's see Scott Coker bring in Erin Toughill for Cyborg's first title defense.
There was a reason that Gina was a 3-1 underdog and I think all things considered she did a great job. If Gina can work on her clinch work, takedowns, technique and grappling defense then she can absolutely beat Cyborg.
I wasn't very impressed with either fighter from a technical standpoint but I have to give it up because they put it all on the line and let it all hang out.

I think Cyborg maybe the woman to beat for some time. But I'm not as familiar with the talent pool in woman's mma though.

I am only joking.Great win Cyborg.I will take johnnynumber5s opinion because he has won me over with his arguments and I know nothing about the women. But your overall knowledge and refusal to be a jerk even when pressured is amazing.

Billy I agree. I saw that on the news. Gina was just smiling acting like she didnt have a care in the world; (basically modeling). Cris, on the other hand, as far as I remember, did not smile one time. she held her fists up, struck a pose and stared Gina right in the eye. Gina tried smiling at her, but Cris got in here head. Punched her in it too..
