UFC 102: Thiago Silva KOs Keith Jardine

Thiago Silva showed Saturday night that he's one of the best knockout artists in mixed martial arts, knocking Keith Jardine out cold with a series of devastating punches in the first round at UFC 102.

Silva was bouncing back from a first-round KO loss of his own, at the hands of light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. But while no one in the light heavyweight division is as good as Machida, Silva showed that he's plenty good himself. Machida is the only man to defeat Silva, and Silva has now earned five UFC wins by knockout or TKO in the last 27 months.

Jardine looked like he had Silva frustrated briefly in the early going, but Silva landed a left hook that floored Jardine and then a couple punches on the ground, and Jardine was out. Silva had the KO victory just 1:35 into the first round.

"Tonight is my night," Silva said afterward. "I'm here to prove I'm back. ... This fight was very important for me. The UFC is my life."

Silva has improved his MMA record to 14-1, and he could be a couple of wins away from another shot at Machida. Jardine fell to 14-6-1.

For some of you praising J. Jones; let's see him beat T. Silva first. I say Silva will destroy Jones. Silva beat a very game oppenent in Jardine.

Jardine's fights are beginning to look very similar to those of Chuck Liddell. Jardine has been brutally KOed in 3 of his last 6 fights.

The list is short (if not non-existent) of guys who have come back to be major contenders after suffering several knockouts in a short period.

Jardine, Chuck, Wanderlei, Forrest ... just because they can put asses in seats, should they still be given the opportunity to get knocked out on a PPV card?

i dont like denying anyone the chance to make money but i think you make a good point, after a couple brutal ko's they're not the same.

jardine doesnt match up well with the shutebox style.
