Lyoto Machida is still the light heavyweight champion of the UFC, but not many people agree with the three judges who allowed him to keep his belt after 25 minutes in the Octagon with Shogun Rua on Saturday night.
So does Machida keep his status as the top light heavyweight in MMA in my latest Top 10? He does, but Shogun also moves up in the rankings after a very close fight with the champ. The full rankings are below.
Top 10 light heavyweights in MMA
1. Lyoto Machida: If forced to pick right now, I'd pick Machida to win in a rematch with Shogun, and so I'm keeping him at the top of these rankings. But he's not as far ahead of the pack as I thought he was before Saturday night.
2. Anderson Silva: The UFC middleweight champion would be the toughest threat to Machida at 205 pounds, but they insist they'll never fight each other.
3. Shogun Rua: The day after Machida won the light heavyweight title, I wrote that Shogun was the fighter in the UFC most likely to take Machida's title from him. I still feel that way. Rua fought a great tactical fight against Machida on Saturday night, and I think he'll give Machida a tough fight in their rematch, even though I'll give Machida a slight edge.
4. Rashad Evans: The former champ is a couple wins away from getting another crack at the title, but I don't think he'll ever match up well with Machida.
5. Forrest Griffin: He's on a two-fight losing streak, but Griffin's win over Shogun looks even more impressive after how well Shogun fought on Saturday. He's probably not too far away from another shot at the title, especially if Shogun beats Machida.
6. Rampage Jackson: He's acting right now, but I think he'll be back in 2010 for a fight with Evans.
7. Dan Henderson: We don't yet know where Henderson will fight next; he could re-sign with the UFC or become one of the most visible stars in Strikeforce.
8. Thiago Silva: His fight with Evans will put the winner a step closer to the title, although I can't picture either of them winning a rematch with Machida.
9. Gegard Mousasi: The Strikeforce light heavyweight champion fights Sokoudjou on CBS November 7.
10. Rich Franklin: His loss to Vitor Belfort pretty much ensures that Franklin isn't going to be fighting for a UFC title again, but he's still very relevant as a gatekeeper at either middleweight or light heavyweight.

I have noticed that 95% of Fedor fans are Machida haters. No surprise. They can't take Machida being ahead of Fedor on P4p list. Silva, GSP, and Machida are much better than Fedor.
By the way, Michael David Smith and Steve Mazagattei shouldn't even watch MMA. These guys can't do their job without bias or error. Steve can't judge. MDS can't stop talking about Fedor.
Rua fans = Fedor fans = Idiots = PRIDE Fans = Need to stop watching MMA

umm Fedor is #1 on the pfp list. He always has been on every list I have ever seen. Even GSP and Silva have said them selfs that Fedor is the best and would beat them, so how could a fan know better than the actual fighters who say that Fedor is the best?

I usually try to respect people's opinions on these boards, but your comments are just too stupid to respect.

Naw! There is no such relationship between Fedor fans and Machida haters. First of all, 95% of MMA fans are Fedor fans. And 95% of MMA fans are Machida fans. 95% of MMA fans are Shogun fans.
If by "fan" you mean a nuthugger then those numbers might be different.
There are NO Pride fans anymore you moron. Pride is dead. Shogun is as much a UFC fighter as Lyoto. Lyoto did not make name in the UFC. His career launch was in Japan just like Shogun.
I think I understand you. You are a recent UFC fan (probably started watching around 2003) and were an occasional Pride viewer. You know the big names in Pride such as Fedor, Cro Cop, and Shogun but didn't follow Pride.
After seeing how Shogun beat Lyoto, I have to totally change the ranking system.
First of all, LHW is deeper than MW and HW. There is only one complete fighter in HW and that is Fedor. There is only one complete fighter in MW and that is Anderson. But in LHW you have two (maybe 3 if you count Mousasi)complete fighters. By complete I mean, not only wellrounded but also great in every aspect of the game.
Fedor doesn't have a rival. Anderson doesn't have a rival. Lyoto and Shogun are rivals. As of now Fedor and Anderson are tied P4P Kings. But the winner of Lyoto and Shogun could potentially lead to new king few years down the road. If Shogun dethrones Lyoto and defends his title against, Evans, Forrest, and a rubber match against Lyoto...then he will be considered better than Fedor in P4P ranking.
P4P ranking is different from "GOAT" or "most influential ranking". GOAT and Most Influential goes to Fedor no matter what happens. He will be remembered as Muhammad Ali of MMA.

Fedor and Rua fans remind of republicans. Always talking about how Anderson gives Fedor credit. Anderson is mad at Dana. That's why he says what he says. As far as GSP. Check his interview after Forrest fight. He said Silva was "CLEARLY" the best.
Rua fans are just desperate.
You people are like republicans. Repeating the same old arguments. Keep looking for birth certificate and death panels. But Fedor is not even in my top P4P list. He hasn't beaten nobody just like Rua never even deserved a title shot.

Every time EXP writes, the collective IQ of this board takes a downward hit. How he bridges from Fedor and Rua fans to "republicans", is just asinine.
Watch some fights, and maybe even try it yourself, before filling up the comment section with such idiocy.

I am just so glad that Dana closed down that hole called Pride. The stars are all overrated. Rua, Fedor. Rua wouldn't last a round with Machida if Lyoto didn't have the Flu and wasn't preparing himself for a Lesnar fight. Listen. Rua is good but he lost to Forrest Griffin. He shouldn't even be in the UFC. He should be in MFC fighting Houston Alexander or something. God!
Here are my predictions: Roger knocks Fedor out in 20 seconds. Carwin beats Lesnar in 1 minute. Lyoto wins another UD against Shogun. Fedor will go on a 10 fight losing streak and his mafia friends find another person to replace him. M1 goes bankrupt.

I am neither Fedor or Machida fan. But kid you talk about bias and bla bla but you are unrealistic. You are what we call a Fanboy. Dana WHite (the white don king) said the same thing about the ref. Wonder where you got your quote from parrot? Machida was clearly exposed in this fight. People won't look at him the same anymore. SOrry, post all the comments you want but the guy lost

exp also said people who thought Machida lost to Rua were racist because Machida has a Japanese dad.
The guy is an idiot. Just ignore him.

For a guy who hypes up having the flu as a reason for losing yet says Shogun is overrated because he lost to Griffin after having to consecutive knee reconstructions leading up to the fight you are as big a hypocrite as it comes.
Whats funny is that Anderson Silva was a .500 fighter in Pride (2-2) and Machida also fought in Pride.
Just stop it already. You've already ruined what little credibility you never had in the first place.

You sheeple are what's wrong with this world today. Just repeating what Dana said or that guy said or whoever. Machida was clearly ill. I am telling you 95% of Fedor fans are Machida haters, internet tough guys with no job, or people who have no clear understanding of how the fight works. Fedor can fight cans, and he is the best ever. he is jesus. Machida wins a close fight and he is a sham. Like I said, keep looking for that birth certificate. I'll be enjoying the rematch with Machida winning another UD. I am sick and tired of you people coming to Fan House and talking Fedor all day.
@johnny5 You are the most biased person here. I am not biased. I saw the fight 6 times if not more. Shogun did not win the fight. But you keep repeating what little Rogan told you. oh well. If you believe what Rogan said or Dana said, I've got a nice bridge on the moon to sell ya.

Umm I believe what I saw with my own two eyes.
Thats like me telling you if you believe what Ed Soares told you because his opinion is the same as yours. Doesn't make any sense and it also doesn't make you look any less stupid for saying people who thought Machida lost are racist, xenophobic and old Pride fans. Whats it going to next people who believe in aliens? Idiot.

Wheres little Nog? Dan Henderson, really at LHW? Same with Rich Franklin? Luis Cane, Renato Sobral, Keith Jardine are more worthy IMO than Franklin and Henderson.

A case can be made for Cane, but Sobral and Jardine definitely don't belong IMO. Sobral has fought "less-than" competition recently (Whitehead, Southworth, Sokoudjou) and was completely dismantled by Mousasi. And Jardine ... well, let's be honest, he gets himself knocked out on a regular basis these days. Seriously - did you not see the Alexander, Wanderlei, or Silva fights?

not sure what the previous post is all about but, my thing with forrest's win over shogun is we now know he wasn't 100%. not even close to the fighter we saw sat. doesn't take away the win but kind of taints it a little. sort of the way mir's win over nog was. could forrest beat the real shogun? who knows but i think his win over rampage is what makes him top 5 imo.

The previous post is disagreeing with the writer's choices for Top 10 LHWs and mentioning fighters who were left out, the topic the article was about.

I realize that Forrest's wins over Rampage and Shogun are huge, but IMO he has no chance of beating either in a rematch and it's unlikely he could beat anyone on this top 10 list. Maybe Franklin.
I'm a huge fan of Forrest, but his 15 minutes are up. 1 or 2 more fights and he'll be forgotten as a contender.

Jon Jones
Luiz Cane
Rogerio Noguiera ...
They all belong on the list instead of Griffin, Franklin and Henderson imo.
Mousasi should also be much higher on the list.

johnny,
i'm totally with you on jon jones and little nog.
for some reason luiz cane draws a blank for me.
also the winner of vera/couture should possilbly be up there as well, and possibly given a title shot.
and dude, i can't wait till mousasi gets to the ufc. although if hendo goes to sf that should be an instant match. and a good barometer for mousasi.
although i do think hendo should stay at mw.
