Frank Shamrock: Brett Rogers Could Pull A Fujita on Fedor Emelianenko

Fedor Emelianenko hasn't often been hurt in his MMA career, but one of the few times he found himself in trouble came in 2003 against Kazuyuki Fujita, who briefly dazed Fedor with a punch. As Fedor prepares for his next fight, against Brett Rogers on November 7, CBS announcer and former UFC champion Frank Shamrock says he sees a lot of Fujita in Rogers.

"The only person I've ever seen hurt Fedor was a big Japanese wrestler, Fujita," Shamrock said Tuesday on a call to promote the CBS show. "He did it deceptively. He was a big wrestler but he got Fedor into a punching game. And somebody with that style could catch him."

Mauro Ranallo, who will call the Fedor-Rogers fight along with Shamrock and Gus Johnson, added that the way Andrei Arlovski controlled the stand-up game in the first couple minutes of his fight with Fedor in January is the way for Rogers to fight Fedor.

"Brett Rogers needs to aggressively pursue Fedor but also be patient, somewhat similar to the way Shogun Rua did with Lyoto Machida," Ranallo said. "It's sort of an oxymoron but it's patient aggressiveness. The key is to wait for Fedor to make a mistake, because everybody does -- nobody is perfect. I don't see Brett Rogers winning this fight if it goes to the ground."

It's true that even Fedor can make a mistake (though he hasn't made many in his MMA career), and I suppose I could see Rogers landing a big, hard right hand like the one Fujita landed, but I have a hard time seeing Rogers actually winning this fight -- just as Fujita wasn't able to beat Fedor. If Rogers hits Fedor hard enough to make him stagger around the cage, that alone would be an accomplishment, but that alone won't be enough to pull off one of the biggest upsets in MMA history.

It can happen to anyone thats for sure. We saw Serra catch GSP with a big punch and beat him and we say Ryo Chonan catch Anderson Silva in one of the craziest submissions ever. Is it possible: yes but is it likely: no.

Rogers has a punchers chance against Fedor but then again so did Sylvia, Arlovski, Noguiera, Cro-Cop, Randleman & Coleman and they still couldn't beat the man known as the Last Emperor.

Impossible, right? Fedor is not human. Brock can't last a second with him. Rogers won't even show. Barnett quit cause he was afraid. Isn't that your line of argument?

Fedor is a fat dude who can't fight. He is a myth. A creature of Russian Mafia. He'll be knocked out in 20 seconds unless the Russian Mafia pays Rogers to throw this fight.

Exp - I don't know you but you sound a little nuts. Are you serious? Fedor got caught with the old "Punchers Chance" and still won; and Fujita has one of the best chins in the world. I would give Rogers a puncher's chance; But Fedor should end it within the first minute and half. That is not hedging one's bet; it's called reality!

There I go again doing what? Being reasonable? I stated the facts that everyone gets caught one time or another. Even guys as dominant of GSP & Silva lost in crazy circumstances no one would have expected. I said that while it's possible that Rogers has a punchers chance it's unlikely that he is actually going to win the fight. No matter how great you are as a fighter you will eventually get caught.

I don't consider Fedor some kind of demigod like you do with Machida & Silva. The problem with people like you (Fedor haters) is that if Fedor wins you'll say he should have won better because Rogers is a tomato can but if Fedor loses you'll say it means he is overrated and was never good to start with.

The whole thing about Fedor is actually pretty comical. Considering I never even talked about Fedor ... yet because I thought Machida lost his fight you somehow extrapolate that I have some sort of a special affinity for Fedor. Do I think Fedor is the best fighter in the sports history? Yes. Based on his body of work it's impossible to argue otherwise unless you have an inherent bias or agenda.

birthers and truthers tend to find each other. You Fedor fan boys consider a washed up Arlovski, Sylvia, and Zulu a great body of work for this myth. I am no Lensar fan. Having said that, Fedor was so afraid to lose in the UFC, even Mirko, who's been terrible in the UFC was surprised.

Here is the moral of the story. Fedor is fat. He is not interested in fighting tough opponents. And he doesn't need to. I am sure the Russian governments pays for his everything.

Dana White is a terrible person but he is right. You guys are nut jobs. If you think Fedor is the best fighter in history, you probably think planes that hit the towers were holograms too?

Why am I even wasting my time with two Fedor fan boys who hate real fighters, are obsessed with PRIDE wanna be and accuse real fighters of using steroids. Please.

sounds fishy. i wouldn't be surprised at all. all meatheads are obsessed with gambling on sports. always checking their phones for scores, calling bookies. all the way up to the top. owners and everyone down. i wouldn't be surprised not one bit. i can't stand meatheads. my brother rolls with the richest, most disgustingly rich hollywood kids who were filthy filthy rich before they were born. woke up with millions. ferrari's like its just another toy. and all they do is bet on sports. and take 100 million dollar private jets to see whatever they want, ringside de la hoya, roy jones, anything. my brother gets the free ride, and i can't stand them. they call me sometimes and ask who's gonna win the ufc fights, i always tell them don't bet on mma. you never know. annoying.

its more likely rogers pulls a frank shamrock and gets knocked out. i really dont see rogers getting out of the first round; then again i said shogun would win against machida. he may have beat him but he didnt win, thanks to judges that have no business judging.

I think the mistake Shogun made was not trying to finish the fight in round 5 when he already had Machida not being able to kick (corner instructed no kicks) and in a more defensive posture. He had his chance to seal the deal but I think his respect for Machida's power and the fact he felt he was already ahead he didn't want to take unnecessary chances.

I'm curious what credit Machida deserves. He fought cautious and uninspired without a sense of urgency. I still think he'll win the rematch and that he is 1op 4 P4P overall and #1 among LHW's. He

The crazy thing is that Shogun beat Machida at his own game. Staying in rage, countering and sniping with strikes.

Do you want him to give Machida for not getting knocked out?

hey Ted, I sure got that wrong. i really thought shogun would cut loose and overwhelm machida. i like machida and think he fights smart. i see no reason to take unnecessary shots if you can win without that. that said, i really thought shogun won the fight. maybe i'm biased, but i didnt see what machida had done to win the fight. never leave the fight to the judges.
