This is the UFC 105 live blog for Randy Couture vs. Brandon Vera, the main event on tonight's Spike TV card. Following a loss to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 102, Couture moves back down to light heavyweight against fellow weight class hopper Vera.
The live blog begins below.
Round 1: Vera immediately lands a kick and they clinch. Couture presses Vera against the cage. The referee separates them with three minutes left. Couture shoots. Couture pulls Vera down from clinch. Vera stands back to his feet. Couture has a front headlock and throws knees. They separate with 15 seconds left and Couture goes right back in clinch.

Round 2: Couture gets kicked low and poked in the eye at the same time. Couture wants the clinch. Vera kicks him off, but Couture moves in with double underhooks. Vera reverses, but Couture presses Vera back against the cage. The referee separates them at 2:33. Vera throws a high kick. Vera lands a leg kick to the body. Vera hurts with a right. Couture holds his stomach and falls. Vera enters Couture's guard. The fight is stood up. Couture clinches Vera against the cage. Couture dirty boxes.

Round 3: Vera leg kicks. Couture unloads punches on Vera, who has his back against the fence. Couture wants the takedown. Couture sneaks punches in clinch. The referee separates them at 2:15. Vera lands a kick to Couture's body. Vera throws high kick and lands another kick to the body. Couture clinches to avoid further damage. Couture throws uppercuts that are blocked. Vera takes Couture down from clinch. Vera has full mount, with just a little over 30 seconds left. Couture gives up his back and escapes. Vera with a knee in clinch. Vera lands an uppercut.
FanHouse scores the round 10-9 for Vera and the fight 29-28 for Vera.
The judges see it differently ... Couture wins by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Terrible decision. This is the second BS decision I've seen from the UFC lately (other being Rua vs Machida) ... Couture literally did nothing the entire fight. He clinched against the fence but didn't land anything of notice. I had Vera winning all 3 rounds and I saw this as an easy fight for Couture coming.
Vera got robbed plain and simple. I love MMA but it's getting as corrupt as boxing with tese terrible decisions.

Excellent decision. Randy won the first and the third. Vera did nothing but a take down in that third. He was rocked and Randy must have finished him. Rogan is an idiot for ruining Randy's win inside the cage.

Anybody scoring the 1st round for Vera was not paying attention.
Close fight. I thought the decision would either be a draw or 29-28 Couture.

Randy is the greatest but leaning Vera against the fence most of the time is a good way to kill time. There should be a better rule how long someone can waste time.
Whats with the British judges? This decision should have been a draw or given to Vera. Like the Bispane vs. Henderson, the judges are having a 'wanker' during the fight.

please re-watch the third round everybody... i don't see how people can give the third round to vera... unless you think a takedown is some magical item that automatically gives you the round. Couture outboxed him the entire round had octagon control and really only lost 20 seconds of the round when he was on his back.

idiots....and this is the guy people thought could step in the ring with fedor....lol...idiots....bret rogers would walk through the UFC...i have one question...why did it take the reff 2 plus minutes to break up randys laying on the cage doing nothing fight....but when vera mounted randy twice , it took all of 10 seconds to stand them up.....hmmmm.....robbed
