Rampage got off to a tremendous start in the first round with a brutal uppercut, while Griffin dominated the second. On my scorecard Rampage got the better of the last three rounds and won the fight, but all three judges disagreed with me.

The key to the fight was the way Griffin hurt Rampage's knee with a big leg kick in the second round. That hindered Rampage the rest of the night.

In other UFC 86 action, Patrick Cote defeated Ricardo Almeida, Joe Stevenson beat Gleison Tibau, Josh Koscheck beat Chris Lytle, Tyson Griffin beat Marcus Aurelio, Gabriel Gonzaga beat Justin McCully, Cole Miller beat Jorge Gurgel, Melvin Guillard beat Dennis Siver and Justin Buchholz beat Corey Hill.

Dollaway with a first-round arm bar tonight in Las Vegas, earning a UFC contract by winning the final fight of this season of The Ultimate Fighter.

The fight was a rematch of a fight that aired during the Ultimate Fighter season; Sadollah won that fight and eliminated Dollaway, only to have Dollaway invited back as a replacement for finalist Jesse Taylor, who was kicked out of UFC.

Although this fight was shorter than their first fight, the result was similar: Dollaway appeared to be in an advantageous position on top on the ground, only to have Sadollah put him in an arm bar. Sadollah is a likable, articulate guy and a skilled fighter who's got a great future ahead of him in UFC.

Said Sadollah after Joe Rogan called him The Ultimate Fighter, "I just heard it and I like it."
Amir Sadollah Submits C.B. According to MMA Rated, Silva is not planning to relinquish his middleweight belt. He'll fight Irvin at 205 pounds and then cut back down to 185 for a middleweight bout down the road. Hermes Franca vs. Frankie Edgar is reportedly part of the undercard.

The event will apparently be part of the Spike UFC Fight Night series.

Affliction's July 19 show is in serious trouble. Although Affliction has put together a good card, headlined by Fedor Emelianenko, it's going to lose a fortune if there's a UFC show headlined by Silva simultaneously. Very, very few people will pay to see Affliction if Silva is fighting for free. Affliction may want to consider canceling.
UFC to Put Anderson Silva on Spike July 19, Affliction Might as Well Cancel originally appeared on MMA FanHouse on Tue, 17 Jun 2008 17:53:00 EST . The 34-year-old Hughes, a workout freak, showed up appearing in good shape as usual. The best fighter on the card, Robbie Lawler, was given all he could handle by Scott Smith, but the fight ended in a no contest when Lawler accidentally poked Smith in the eye in the third round and the doctor said Smith couldn't continue. Gina Carano and Kaitlin Young put on a fairly entertaining show, but the other two fights on the card were lackluster one-minute knockouts.

And then there's Slice. Say this for him: His fighting isn't pretty, but his knockouts aren't lackluster.

Previously on FanHouse:
Elite XC on CBS: Gina Carano and Kaitlin Young Finally Give the Fans Reason to Cheer
First Hour of CBS EliteXC Show Contains Two Minutes of Mixed Martial Arts
Elite XC Newark Undercard Results
Elite XC in Newark Isn't UFC in Vegas

The news was first reported by MMARated.com and has since been confirmed on UFC's official web site.

Liddell's inability to fight is a major blow to UFC. There's no other fighter they could put in the main event against Rashad Evans and still justify selling the fairly weak UFC 85 card. The UFC 85 main event has already been changed once, as Liddell was previously slated to fight Mauricio "Shogun" Rua before Rua pulled out with an injury. From UFC.com:

"Unfortunately, Chuck Liddell tore his right hamstring during training last week, and being the warrior that he is, he still wanted to fight, which is the reason why everyone in the world loves him," said Dana White, UFC President. "But I wouldn't let anyone fight with his leg looking that way. Let him heal and come back and fight when he is 100 percent."

White vows that he will add more fights to the UFC 85 card and that the show will go on in London.

Early on he effectively went for takedowns, and as the fight went on he increasingly landed solid strikes. The referee stopped the fight late in the second when they were on the ground and Serra had no answer for St-Pierre's strikes.

Serra entered the Octagon as the champion, although St-Pierre was technically the interim champion because Serra had been out of commission with a back injury. Silva eventually got Henderson to tap with a rear-naked choke with just seven seconds left in the second round.

Before the fight, it had been billed as the best 185-pound matchup in the history of mixed martial arts. That might very well be true, but Silva won handily, and it raises the question of whether anyone can stop the Brazilian Spider. He's just so dominant right now, it's hard to think of anyone who could even challenge him.

Previously on FanHouse:
As MMA Goes Legit, Detractors Will Continue to Miss the Real Issues for Fans
UFC 82: Anderson Silva-Dan Henderson Live
UFC 82 Undercard Live Blog: Tanner-Okami, Kongo-Herring, Fitch-Wilson, Leben-Sakara
UFC: Mark Coleman Will Fight Brock Lesnar
UFC 82: Anderson Silva Beats Dan Henderson for UFC and Pride Title Belts originally appeared on MMA FanHouse on Sat, 01 Mar 2008 23:59:00 EST . J. Penn defeated Joe "Daddy" Stevenson by second-round submission to win the vacant Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight title.

The Hawaiian Penn, who improved his record to 12-4-1, was fighting for the first time since beating Jens Pulver during the season finale of The Ultimate Fighter Season 5. Penn put together a dominant performance in which he opened a huge cut in Stevenson's forehead in the first round, got covered in Stevenson's blood, and then applied a rear-naked choke in the second round, causing Stevenson to tap out.

Stevenson, who is from Torrance, California, entered today's fight on a four-fight winning streak. His performance today was fine, but once the cut opened, he was out of it.

The lightweight title was vacant because UFC stripped Sean Sherk of the belt after Sherk tested positive for steroids. Sherk is currently serving a suspension and will fight Penn for the lightweight title in his first fight back.

Previously on FanHouse:
UFC 80 Live Blog: B.J. Penn fighting Joe "Daddy" Stevenson for the vacant Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight title.

The UFC 80 pay-per-view broadcast is being shown live from Newcastle, England. The undercard is over, and the main event should start a little after 5 p.m. Eastern.

Live, round-by-round updates of Penn vs. Stevenson are available after the jump.
Once the fighters enter the Octagon, refresh this page every 30 seconds or so for live, round-by-round updates.

Sean Sherk, the man who was stripped of the lightweight title to turn this into a title fight, is in attendance and acting as a guest commentator.

B.J. Penn vs. Joe Stevenson
Stevenson enters the Octagon to Bush's "Machinehead." Odd choice. Stevenson has now stepped into the Octagon. Penn enters the Octagon to a Hawaiian song with which I'm not familiar. Penn has now stepped into the Octagon.

Round 1: This fight is underway. Penn comes in quickly and lands some big strikes. He's got Stevenson in trouble early on. Penn is landing some solid elbows now. Stevenson wasn't ready for such a quick start by Penn, and he's just trying to hang on. Stevenson survived the initial attack, but Penn still has the advantage. Penn is on top and is looking good. Penn landed a couple more strikes, and Stevenson has really done nothing except play defense. Stevenson is finally landing some strikes on the ground after four minutes. It's pretty impressive that Stevenson got back to guard, but a big elbow landed a gash on Stevenson's forehead. This is one of the worst cuts I've ever seen. Stevenson is drenched in blood. This round definitely goes to Penn, 10-9. The cut is to Stevenson's forehead, and it'll be interesting to see if they let him continue into the second round.

Round 2: The fight continues, but Stevenson is still bleeding. There is no way Stevenson can fight 20 more minutes with this cut. He's going to need to win this thing quickly. Penn lands a nice left hand, and the first minute of this round has been a boxing match. Penn knows he doesn't need to do much of anything because eventually that cut is going to keep Stevenson from fighting. The blood is streaming down Stevenson's face right now. The cut is in the middle of his forehead, which is good because blood isn't getting into his eyes. But they've now halted the fight to have the doctor look at the cut. The doctor says he can keep going, but at some point this fight is going to have to be stopped, because the blood is all over the place. They're on the ground and now both men have Stevenson's blood all over them. Penn is landing strikes and Stevenson is a bloody mess. Blood is spurting out Stevenson's forehead. This is one of the bloodiest fights in the history of mixed martial arts. Both guys are just dripping blood from their bodies, but the blood is all Stevenson's. Now Penn applies a choke on the ground. B.J. Serra has been guaranteed a title shot. After the fight, St.-Pierre took off his title belt and said, "The real champion is Matt Serra," and that he will only consider himself the real champ when and if he beats Serra.

The win is a bit of an embarrassment for Hughes, who was totally outclassed throughout and looked somewhat unprepared, even though Hughes is the one who had more time to prepare for the fight. But Hughes, who verbally tapped out in the second round when St.-Pierre got him in an arm bar, said it best afterward: "Georges is just the better fighter."

Previously on FanHouse:
UFC 79 Live Blog: Georges St.-Pierre vs. Matt Hughes for Welterweight Championship
UFC 79: Chuck Liddell Beats Wanderlei Silva
UFC 79: Nemesis Live Blog -- Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva
With Couture Out, Tim Sylvia vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira for UFC Title
UFC 79 Undercard Live Blog: Machida- Sokoudjou, Clementi-Guillard, Sanchez-Palalei
UFC 79: Georges St.-Pierre Beats Matt Hughes for UFC Welterweight Title originally appeared on MMA FanHouse on Sat, 29 Dec 2007 23:57:00 EST . He badly hurt Silva, bloodied him, and beat him senseless. It's a credit to Silva that he wasn't knocked out, but it was clear that Liddell won the fight handily.

It's great news for UFC that it's biggest star is back on the winning side of the ledger.

Silva now has a three-fight losing streak.
UFC 79: Chuck Liddell Beats Wanderlei Silva originally appeared on MMA FanHouse on Sat, 29 Dec 2007 23:46:00 EST . In the non-televised portion of the program, James Irvin beat Luis Cane by disqualification, Manny Gamburyan beat Nate Mohr by submission, Dean Lister beat Jordan Radev by unanimous decision, Roan Carneiro beat Tony DeSouza by TKO and Mark Bocek beat Doug Evans by unanimous decision.

When the three undercard fights are over, join us for our Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva live blog, followed by our Georges St.-Pierre vs. Matt Hughes live blog.

Full round-by-round updates are after the jump.

Refresh this page often for non-stop updates.

Rich Clementi vs. Melvin Guillard
Clementi has stepped into the Octagon. Guillard has stepped into the Octagon. There's some trash talk going on before the fight has started. There are still plenty of empty seats at Mandalay Bay.

Round 1: We are underway. Clementi lands a solid leg kick. Guillard swings and misses with a right hand; Clementi misses with a high kick. They're both on their feet for the first minute and a half. Clementi takes Guillard down and has him in a full nelson, an almost unheard of move for mixed martial arts. They stand back up and Guillard lands an outstanding combination of strikes but then slips when he goes for a knee. They're back on the ground and Clementi is demonstrating his jiu-jitsu skills. With 30 seconds to go in the first round, Clementi has a choke applied. And it's over! Rich Clementi beats Melvin Guillard by tapout due to rear-naked choke.

Clementi showed a bit of bad sportsmanship after the fight, with some obscene gesturing. And then in his post-fight interview Clementi continued to show no class, talking trash to Guillard and hearing some boos in response.

Lyoto Machida vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou
I'm looking forward to this one. Sokoudjou is in the Octagon. Machida is in the Octagon.
Round 1: This fight is underway. They're feeling each other out early and Sokoudjou lands a big right hand, followed by a takedown, but Machida does a nice job of reversing it on the ground. They're wrestling and there's not a lot of action in the first couple of minutes. Machida has the advantage and has been on top on the ground for most of the fight. The fans are starting to boo. Finally, with just over a minute to go in the round, the ref stands them up and tells them to fight. With 20 seconds left, Sokoudjou takes Machida down, but he can't do much with it, and I'd give this round to Machida, 10-9.

Round 2: Big high kick from Machida, and I'm surprised it didn't take Sokoudjou down. Both guys have missed on high kicks, and the first minute and a half they're on their feet and not doing much damage. Sokoudjou is on his back and in big trouble. Machida is landing strikes. But Machida slows it down and Sokoudjou seems to have survived it. Machida is on top and in the mount position with two minutes left in the round. Sokoudjou is in serious trouble here. It's over! Lyoto Machida defeats Sokoudjou by tapout due to an arm triangle.

Eddie Sanchez vs. Soa Palalei
Palalei enters the Octagon to "Damn It Feels Good To Be A Gangster," made famous in Office Space. Sanchez has entered the Octagon.
Round 1: This fight is underway. Sanchez is the aggressor early. They're against the cage and not getting much accomplished early. Palalei is showing a lot of patience, he has some control but isn't going on the attack. Sanchez knees Palalei to the groin, and the referee calls time. Overall the first round has been fairly uneventful. Palalei swings and misses so badly that he falls to the ground. A nice uppercut from Sanchez late in the round. It was a close round and I'll give it to Sanchez, 10-9, mostly because of that uppercut, which was the only really notable strike of the round.

Round 2: They're clutching each other early, and Sanchez seems to have control. The cameras caught Sanchez rolling his eyes, as if to say he's bored with Palalei. Palalei lands a right hand, but for the most part Palalei is just wildly swinging his left hands, and they're not doing any damage to Sanchez. This is a disappointing fight for Palalei. The fans are booing and with good reason: These guys aren't giving them much action. Sanchez connects with a solid punch. Sanchez knows Palalei has no answer for his uppercuts. Palalei is bleeding from the mouth and nose, and as this round ends, it's a definite 10-9 for Sanchez.

Round 3: Palalei seems content to just stand around and not do much of anything. Sanchez is landing shots to Palalei's face, and Palalei is bleeding badly. Both guys are tired, both guys have blood all over them. And it's over! Eddie Sanchez defeats Soa Palalei by TKO on strikes.

Now that the Sanchez-Palalei fight is over, join me for the Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva live blog.
UFC 79 Undercard Live Blog: Machida- Sokoudjou, Clementi-Guillard, Sanchez-Palalei originally appeared on MMA FanHouse on Sat, 29 Dec 2007 21:26:00 EST . "I have the utmost respect for both Hughes and St-Pierre for stepping up for this fight, and not only are the fans going to see two of the greatest welterweights of all-time settle their score in a rubber match, but they're going to do it in a five round interim title fight, and the winner is going to face off next year against Matt Serra for the undisputed title."

A lot of fans will prefer watching St-Pierre fight Hughes to watching Serra fight Hughes, and although the winner will only be the "interim" champion, this is a legitimate title fight. Although the injury to Serra was bad news for UFC, pitting St-Pierre against Hughes for the title and guaranteeing Serra a title shot as soon as he has recovered was the best way to handle it.
UFC 79: With Matt Serra Injured, Georges St-Pierre to Fight Matt Hughes originally appeared on MMA FanHouse on Sun, 25 Nov 2007 10:43:00 EST . UFC President Dana White acknowledged that it's grim news for his organization:

"This is devastating news because they were so looking forward to fighting each other, said White.

"Unfortunately injuries happen and I look forward to Serra recovering quickly, and to getting him back into the Octagon."

UFC has heavily promoted the Serra-Hughes fight as the centerpiece of UFC 79, which takes place on Dec. 29. Without that fight, the Chuck Liddell-Wanderlei Silva fight becomes the main event, and UFC 79 becomes a lot less interesting.
UFC 79: Matt Serra-Matt Hughes Called Off originally appeared on MMA FanHouse on Fri, 23 Nov 2007 11:14:00 EST . Evans comes out with a right hand and then goes for the takedown. The fans are chanting "USA" to show support for Evans. The ref breaks them up as they grapple against the fence. Bisping tries a high kick but Evans gets a takedown. Evans is definitely in control here. The fight slowed down in the final minute of the round, but Evans definitely wins Round 1.

Round 2: Evans gets a takedown and starts Round 2 where he finished Round 1. Evans' mouthpiece came out and was on the ground for about a minute but Bisping wasn't able to land any strikes before Evans got it back in. Overall this is, again, Evans' round, but he's starting to look tired. Evans lands a right hand with a minute to go in the round. Bisping gets a takedown right at the end of the round, but overall I give the round to Evans.

Round 3: The first 30 seconds are basically a boxing match, without much landing. Then Evans takes Bisping down. Good side control, right into guard. Evans has had Bisping in his control, but now Bisping reverses it and gets Evans on his back. With two minutes to go, Evans lands a strike, and I'd have to say this is Evans' fight, unless Bisping does something dramatic. Bisping lands a kick but it doesn't do much damage, and with only a minute left Bisping needs to do something now. It ends with the fighters on the ground, and we'll go to the judges' scorecards. I'd give this fight to Evans but it wouldn't shock me if the judges go with Bisping. I'll let you know what the judges say as soon as it's announced.
Rashad Evans wins by split decision.
UFC 78 Main Event Live Blog: Rashad Evans vs. Michael Bisping originally appeared on MMA FanHouse on Sat, 17 Nov 2007 23:15:00 EST . Thiago Alves beat Chris Lytle by TKO under order of the doctor, and Dan tells me the crowd chanted BS.

When the undercard is over, you can join us over at the UFC 78 Rashad Evans-Michael Bisping main event live blog.

Tonight's undercard fights include Karo Parisyan vs. Ryo Chonan, Houston Alexander vs. Thiago Silva, Spencer Fisher vs. Frank Edgar and Ed Herman vs. Joe Doerksen.

The show has started and the live blog starts after the jump.
Refresh this page often to get continuous updates on all of the fights.

Spencer Fisher vs. Frank Edgar
I have to give Fisher the edge in the entrance music, as he comes in to the stylings of Johnny Cash.
Round 1: A nice take down and we're on the ground early. Edgar is showing some nice wrestling skills. We've had a good deal of action on the ground but not a lot of damage. They stood up briefly, Fisher tried a high kick but slipped, and they're back on the ground. Not a lot of damage done, but Edgar controlled the pace, and the first round clearly goes to Edgar.

Round 2: Edgar with the takedown right at the start. Fisher gets back up, but he's not doing much of anything; Edgar is in control. Edgar gets on top, lands punches and Fisher has a lot of blood coming from above his eye. For a brief moment I thought Fisher was going to get an arm bar, but Edgar broke free, and he's dominating this fight. Again, the second round clearly goes to Edgar.

Round 3: Fisher tried to do a spin before his kick, but Edgar figured it out and took him down. The third round is starting a lot like the first two did. Edgar tried for a rear-naked choke but couldn't do it. Fisher has really done nothing here at all, it's a dominant performance by Edgar. Fisher just has to try to do something, and he really isn't getting anything going. I give the third round to Edgar and I'll be stunned if he doesn't win by unanimous decision. Frank Edgar wins by unanimous decision.

Ed Herman vs. Joe Doerksen
Herman enters the Octagon wearing a shirt advertising CondomDepot.com. That's classy.
Round 1: They're just doing a little bit of slapping against the cage, but Doerksen is already bleeding profusely and we're only a minute in. Not a lot of action early but a lot of blood. Herman is definitely in control of the round, staying on top and opening up that cut. Round 1 for Herman.

Round 2: Herman starts out swinging wildly and missing, and then Doerksen tries to kick but slips. This fight is looking a lot like the first fight, with Herman dominating the same way Edgar did. But just as I say that, Doerksen does a nice job getting on top of Herman and looks like he might finally do a little damage. Herman then is able to transition and get back on top, though. Just as the round ends, Doerksen almost gets Herman into a submission, but Herman just manages to survive the round. It was a very close round that I'll probably give to Doerksen.

Round 3: And Herman lands a right hand and then a left punch and it's a knockout! Amazing! Herman wins by knockout. A solid left hand to the chin finishes the fight.

Karo Parisyan vs. Ryo Chonan
Chonan walks into the Octagon wearing a Hannibal Lecter-type mask. Parisyan enters to "Bad to the Bone." Randy Couture is in Parisyan's corner, which is a little weird, to say the least.
Round 1: Parisyan lands a left hook, knocking Chonan to the ground and getting on top quickly. They're back on their feet and exchanging punches and Parisyan is winning this one. Parisyan gets a takedown halfway through the round. Chonan lands a solid right after they get back on their feet, but with a minute to go in the round it's definitely Parisyan's so far. I give the round to Parisyan.

Round 2: The round starts slowly, as they stay on their feet. But then Chonan lands a solid right hand and goes for a kick, but Parisyan catches the kick. Parisyan lands a strike that takes Chonan to the ground, and then Parisyan gets on him halfway through the round. Parisyan has definitely won this round with a nice flurry at the end, and Chonan will need to knock out or submit him in round three.

Round 3: The round starts with Parisyan kicking Chonan in the place where men don't like to be kicked. The crowd is booing a relative lack of action here. Chonan has landed a couple of strikes, but for the most part it's Parisyan all the way. Chonan is trying to make a few things happen with some kickboxing moves, but this is really Parisyan's fight, and with a minute to go it's been a disappointing showing by Chonan. I'll be shocked if Parisyan doesn't win this thing by unanimous decision. Karo Parisyan wins by unanimous decision.

Houston Alexander vs. Thiago Silva
Alexander with some Kid Rock to enter the ring. That never gets old.
Round 1: They start in a clinch and the ref makes the right move, breaking them up. The high kick from Silva is caught by Alexander. Alexander gets a takedown but Silva is in a good position. Alexander gets mounted, which is bad news or him with three minutes to go in the first round. It's over! Silva mounts Alexander and pummels him with strikes until the ref stops it. Silva wins by TKO.

The Alexander-Silva fight marks the end of the undercard, so please join me at the UFC 78 Michael Bisping-Rashad Evans main event live blog.
UFC 78: Undercard Live Blog: Parisyan - Chonan, Alexander - Silva, Fisher - Edgar originally appeared on MMA FanHouse on Sat, 17 Nov 2007 22:02:00 EST . The UFC's inability to land PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko played a prominent role in the decision to walk away, according to Couture.

"I appreciate this opportunity the sport of MMA and the UFC has given me," the UFC Hall-of-Famer said. "However, I'm tired of swimming upstream at this stage with the management of the UFC. It only makes sense at this point in my career to fight Fedor Emelianenko, and since he's now signed with another organization, I feel like it's time to resign and focus on my other endeavors."

It's not clear what else Couture might be doing next, but it is clear that this strikes a major blow to UFC.

Previously on FanHouse:
Randy Couture Finished Off Gabriel Gonzaga Despite a Broken Arm
UFC 74: Randy Couture Beats Gabriel Gonzaga, Keeps Heavyweight Title
Randy Couture Defends UFC Steroids Policy
UFC 74: Randy Couture Gabriel Gonzaga Live Round-By-Round Results
%Gallery-4009%

Hat tip: Sports by Brooks.
Randy Couture Quits UFC originally appeared on MMA FanHouse on Thu, 11 Oct 2007 16:10:00 EST . But that was actually his worst round. He pummeled Liddell with repeated right body kicks and left hooks in rounds two and three, and it's actually quite surprising that he had to win a split decision -- it's hard to imagine what the judge who scored the fight for Liddell was thinking.

UFC seemed so confident that Liddell would win that it announced before the fight that a Liddell victory would pit him against Wanderlei Silva.
